PV a few xtra hours - what areas would u do

We will be going on a tour, eating lunch and then have a few hours before dinner. I have been to PV several times but have primarily done excursions. My sister and our friend have never been. They are 57 & 65. One likes to shop, the other loves the beaches and drinking. What would you suggest for a few hours and why

 

Downtown PV (Malecon area)

River Cuale (Casa Kimberly)

Los Muertos Beach ( not sure if right name or spelling but south of the Malecon from my understanding)

Marina Vallarta

Or any other areas we can get to and spend some time in for 2-3 hours.

After a morning excursion in PV, we always walk to the Krystal hotel from the pier and hang out by the pool and beach with pina colada's. Last week we skipped the pool and just went for the buffet lunch in the bar area and relaxed after our 5 hour jeep tour.

We spend most of the winter in PV and never get tired of the town. So what to do with your extra time? Why not do what many American and Canadian residents do. Just come down town and stroll the Malecon and the the shops across the street (as well as once block up from the Malecon). Keep walking south and than you cross the small pedestrian bridge into the old town (Romantic Zone) where if you walk a few blocks you will find many additional shops. You might want to stop at the Cheeky Monkey (Hi Troy if you read this) which is famous for their $1 Margaritas and also has a fabulous view. This is right across the street from the ladder statute on the Malecon and its up on the 2nd floor (they also make a darn good meatball sub). We once asked the owner of this place (his name is Troy) who happens to be an American why he only charges $1 for a drink and his answer was that he could not understand why everyone else doesn't charge a dollar. There is also another interesting shopping area (more like a large flea market) which is on the small island as you cross the bridge to the Romantic Zone (just walk down the steps towards Oscars and keep walking north on the island).

The ladder statute is hard to miss. As to the Cheeky Monkey, it does have a sign (its on the 2nd floor) and the steps to get to the place are around the corner. Keep in mind that this place is not fancy (its more like a pizza/sub shop) but the view is hard to beat (the best people watching in town) and the prices are great. There are also a lot of other bars, cafes and restaurants along the same street (just opposite of the Malecon). You do not have to worry about the drinks or ice in PV (everyone uses good water and ice) and the food in all the restaurants is as safe as home. As to buying food from street venders (there are quite a few of these venders in the Romantic Zone) you need to use some judgement. We also think that PV is one of the safest towns in North America with a very very low crime rate. The main danger is getting hit by a car or bus.
