cane beach chillout?

We will be on the NCL Dawn in January and we are thinking of making it a beach day at Cane Bay Garden Beach, my ? is, it will cost our family $180.00 to do it through NCL shore excursion and they say it is approximate 5 hours but it does include a island-style buffet lunch. Could we do it alot cheeper on our own by getting a taxi and having lunch at a resturant on the beach? How much would a taxi cost round trip for 4 of us and how long does it take. We are in port from 8 to 4?:confused: Thanks for your help!!

Take a taxi and do it yourself. It's about a 20-25 minute ride if you go directly from Road Town. I'm not up on taxi rates but I hear $6-$8 PP. Arrange with your driver for a return pick-up and pay on the way back. There are several bar/restaurants to enjoy and you can have a nice lunch and drinks.

It's not an expensive taxi, and there's a convenience store at the west end of the beach on the main (only) road for drinks and such if you don't want to buy stuff from a take out bar on the beach.

Especially for a group or family it would be A LOT less expensive to do on your own than with a cruise ship tour
