btorlv Posted November 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Is the taxi fare to Sea Grapes pp or per taxi and how much is it? If we decide to take the $2.50 bus, where do you catch it?
flsunnymommy Posted November 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2008 There are some bus stop signs around and you can flag down buses. My son got me lost so I just asked people and they were helpful. One warning, the buses do not look like buses and are mini vans. Thankfully someone flagged one down for us when it passed. Also my son loved the bus and everyone was very friendly
DeltaXi Posted December 3, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2008 The taxi's at that are at the tender docks will not (hardly ever) negotiate with you on pricing and they charge Per Person which can really add up for even a short trip. Best recommendation is to walk a few blocks due north of the pier (toward the banks) and get a cab there. They are all very friendly and will be more willing to negotiate. We just got back and got our driver to take us (4) from Georgetown to Hell (wait for us there for 15 min) and back for $40. We gave her an additional $10 tip just to be nice. The regular rate on that trip can go as high as $70-80 for the same amount of passengers. The Buses were also very nice and very easy to use. These bus/mini vans depart from a central point in town, all destinations , with a controller here at this location, when the van is full ,of it goes. from the exit of the pier.take a left , then a right, straight on 100 yards, then left, cannot miss it, just ask. on return, from where ever, just flag one down. no hassle ,unlike some Islands. drew sailbum Posted December 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2008 Local route bus fare is US$2.50 to US$5.00 per person depending upon distance travelled. Generally the higher fares are for points in the eastern districts - well away from the cruise terminals. You normally pay your bus fare when you exit the bus. You can catch the local route buses at the depot on Edward Street next to the Public Library. This is the central depot for all routes on the island. Route buses will have a colored circle with a number inside indicating the route. The vehicle itself may look like a small bus or a large passenger van. Away from George Town you can just wave at a passing route bus to catch a ride. Be sure you are catching the bus going in the direction you want to travel. If in doubt, just ask. Locals are friendly. :D The route buses will not go directly to the port! That is the exclusive domain of tour buses and taxis. Taxis operate in accordance with fares set by a government board. Negotiating is not normally done.
