DoubleDee2 Posted November 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2004  We have a group of 15 that want to book the dune buggy tour for December. From what I can tell, there are about 3 different outfits that do these tours? Are they all just "reservation-takers" for the same main company? What is the best way to book this tour? The prices all seem the same, and not cheaper than the ship tours. Any advice or recommendations for us? Thanks a ton!
solita Posted November 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2004 No, they aren't the same company. We have a couple different tours here with dune buggys. I would suggest booking through your shore excursion manager on board. Price will be the same if you do it that way. And many tours only work through shore ex's and will not book another way. Ok, so the Eagle Ray Divers that offers a dune buggy tour, and the Cozumel Insider offers one and then the other is Cozumel homes or whatever, they are all different tours? They are all the same price and seem to have the exact same descriptions....that is why I asked. Thank you :)
sportsterjohn Posted November 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 8, 2004 I am not 100% sure, you may want to check with one of the locals who post here often but I believe Eagle Ray and Coz homes book for the same company. BTW, I booked through Coz homes and went on the tour back in March, it was a blast!
solita Posted November 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 8, 2004 Now I understand your question. Yes, the Eagle Ray and Coz Insider are the same tour. But there are a couple of different dune buggy tours offered here on the island.
Marcys Posted November 8, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 8, 2004 Sportsterjohn...my family of 4 would like to do a dune buggy tour, also. What company did Coz homes book you through. It sounds like you had a blast...can you tell more more about your tour. Do you have an e-mail address or website. Any pictures?? Thanks so much! CozSally Posted November 8, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 8, 2004 All three: Coz Insider, Eagle Ray and Cozumel Vacation Homes (who actually runs the tour) are offering the exact same tour. As far as I know, they are the only ones with dune buggys. All the others use jeeps.

487 Posted November 9, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 9, 2004 Yes, I would like to know the difference also. Which is better, the jeeps or the buggys? Do they go the same route?

solita Posted November 10, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 10, 2004 I know that Sandollar and Pelicanos both have dune buggy tours. They all go the same basic route...although, some go farther on the "jeep trail" north past Mecalitos. The dune buggies really fly along the road...a much faster, bumpier ride. It's also louder and more windy.
CozSally Posted November 10, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 10, 2004 My mistake, sorry. However I DO know that the three mentioned are the same tour, run by the owners of Cozumel Vacation Homes.

llund Posted November 13, 2004 #14 Share Posted November 13, 2004 I was looking at Eagle Ray Divers Dune Buggy tour. Last time we were in Cozumel, we took an eco jeep ride, booked through the cruise ship. The company was Sunshine fun tours. Are they still around? They were great but I would like to see a different part of the island this time.
solita Posted November 13, 2004 #15 Share Posted November 13, 2004 Yes, Eco Jeep and Snorkel is still around - aka Sunshine Tours or Executive Tours.. They are the ones that take the jeep tour out to Punta Sur for snorkeling and then offroading.
llund Posted November 13, 2004 #16 Share Posted November 13, 2004 Do they do any other jeep trips to another part of the island?
Marcys Posted November 14, 2004 #17 Share Posted November 14, 2004 OK...I'm totally confused. We have all day and evening in Cozumel, so timing is not a problem. If we want a fun day of jeep/dune buggying with a variety of things to do...some sightseeing...some snorkeling/swimming...some offroading fun...who should we book with???????????????????????????? We are a family of 4, including 2 teens. solita Posted November 14, 2004 #18 Share Posted November 14, 2004 Go with Eco Jeep and Snorkel. They offer a great variety with their tour. I did a detailed post about them about a week or so ago. Check the search feature for more details. They are fabuloso.
llund Posted November 14, 2004 #19 Share Posted November 14, 2004 We had a great time with them last time we were in Cozumel. I would just like to see a different part of the island and e-mailed them to see if they do any other trips. I haven't heard back yet.
Marcys Posted November 14, 2004 #20 Share Posted November 14, 2004 Solita...Eco jeep and snorkel sounds great. How can I contact them? Are they the ones that do not have a website...or am I confused again?
solita Posted November 15, 2004 #21 Share Posted November 15, 2004 Marcys... They do not have a website at the moment. Here is Julio Sanchez's email address though. He is the tour operator for Eco Jeep and Snorkel aka Sunshine Tours. He speaks very good english. julios@sunshinefuntours.com llund... They do not have an alternate route. There is a dune buggy tour and a 4x4 jeep tour that goes to the east side of the island heading north. I went out a week ago on that. It was okay but VERY long day...8 hour tour. Snorkeling was lousy but beach area was beautiful. The offroading was very rough, cut my toe being bounced around in the jeep.
Marcys Posted November 15, 2004 #22 Share Posted November 15, 2004 Solita...thanks for the e-mail address for Sunshine tours. Was the Eco Jeep and Snorkel also 8 hours?? Not sure I want to be out that long!
