eseid55743 Posted December 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2008 Hi everyone, I'm new to Cruise Critic. I am taking my next cruise in Western Europe on May 2009. I am looking at an offer from an Internet Travel Agency that includes a $300 onboard credit. After what happened with Cruise Value Center I am a little leery. Should I be worried? cb at sea Posted December 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2008 Sounds like you're already worried! I'd much rather deal with a "brick and mortar" agency, than something on the 'net'. Or, directly with the cruiseline!
levart57 Posted December 17, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2008 I would look for an agent in my local area who was recommended by a friend or neighbor and who will be there for me if i have a problem. I would check reliability, years in business, certifications and knowledge. Price does not always guarantee service & reliabilility. Pay with a credit card. momofmeg Posted December 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2008 In this economy who knows? I read here at CC that cruise value had been a good reputable agency but then it was sold to two men who had shady business practices this was posted by a former employee who had worked there many years. If this is true and not just a digrunted employee talking-I hope those men get prosecuted. Sadly, that could happen to any company. In this uncertain economy -it could be the cruiseline going belly up. I remember when Premier folded back in 2000, that PAX were left stranded in the Caribbean- and that HAD oncebeen a popular reputable cruiseline. Your best bet is to pay by credit card-like American Express-so if the line or agency folds (it could be either-lets face it the cruiselines are in trouble) you can dispute the charges and get your money refunded-now if American Express folds-we will just be "stuck".
