petel Posted January 13, 2009 #326 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Pig and Whistle was smoking every night on our Chrismtas cruise! Champagne Bar and some areas of Aqua bar were non-smoking. You can always use Deck 5 to move from Dining room on deck 4 to theater, avoiding the Casino. Pig & Whistle is a smoking bar. Derek I don't think MTD will be available on VY but watch for news. Have a great day ! :)

buckanear Posted January 13, 2009 #329 Share Posted January 13, 2009 I'm looking at my compass from day 7 and it lists the champagne bar and pig & whistle as non-smoking. I don't know what experience Dave had with Martin, but I do know that he made a major boo boo on our cruise.

I don't know what experience Dave had with Martin, but I do know that he made a major boo boo on our cruise. Maybe the "powers" finally designated the piggly wiggly as No Smoking. I know it was pretty bad sometimes just walking by. Somewhere Dave said he had great service from Martin and so have I. What was the "major boo boo?" We'll try to help him avoid it on our next outing.

suewms1 Posted January 13, 2009 #332 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Sailor Moon---I was wondering about anytime dining being available on Voyager Feb. 1st too. I called the Crown & Anchor desk, and spoke to a very pleasant woman who didn't seem to know too much. She consulted something and came back and told me that it wouldn't be available on Voyager as of that date. I didn't feel that her answer was very authoritative, however, so you may want to keep that in mind. Sue

I don't know what experience Dave had with Martin, but I do know that he made a major boo boo on our cruise. I know people have sang his praises, and I do hope he has improved, but boy did we not get a good vibe from him. Every morning he questioned what room we were in (like we had no business being there). We are usually one of the younger couples that are diamond members and I understand he has to verify, but come on, if I had a room key for the lounge obviously, I was either in a suite or was a diamond member?? In the evenings he never paid us any mind. When I asked for ice show tickets, he gave them to me and never even looked up at me. I am hoping for much improved service this time around. Pistol Packin Mama Posted January 13, 2009 #334 Share Posted January 13, 2009 [bQuestion about the Voyager aft cabins. Do the partitions open on the balconies between cabins Deck 10? We are having a cabin crawl/poker run, and will end up in that area, and it would be nice if it opened. Several of us have cabins there.[/b]

wolfganghowell Posted January 13, 2009 #338 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Wow - that's surprising to hear on Martin. He was a little reserved but was very helpful to us and poured a good stiff drink at night. ;) I even "lost" my ice show tickets and when he gave me the replacements, I realized that I had accidentally thrown the originals away. I did confess to him so that he knew it was my mistake, not his and he was very gracious about it. :D
xxbuterfly1616 Posted January 13, 2009 #339 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Does anyone have any thoughts about the different levels of the dining room? On my one previous cruise (Adventure OTS) I ate on the ground floor of the dining room right near the staircase and thought it was a spectacular location. Does it really matter if you're on the bottom or an upper level? Also, a RC rep told me that I would be at a table for 8 on my upcoming cruise, is that any indicator of where my table might be located? Thanks!! :D

I am originally from Lafourche Parish. I just absolutely loved Nicholls State! The University gives you one on one attention with your professors and prepares you so well for grad school. LSU was really a breeze because Nicholls prepared me so well....Parents, there is a great University in Thibodaux, LA check them out!
austinlw Posted January 14, 2009 #345 Share Posted January 14, 2009 One of my coworkers was on Voyager last week with her husband. This was her first cruise. I have been anxiously awaiting her return because my wife and I will be on Voyager this next week. I finally talked with her this morning, so I emailed my wife about what she said. Good news and bad news. Good news - She said the ship is gorgeous. The food was wonderful. The crew was fantastic. Once they got going they loved everything about the ship, crew, and service. Their waiters and cabin steward were exactly what we previous cruisers love about Royal Caribbean. They consistently went out of their way to provide great service. My coworker was "wowed". Bad news - Because of the long fog delay in boarding the ship, the boarding process was very chaotic and ugly. Galveston is still really hurting from Ike. They only found 1 restaurant open in the vicinity, and it couldn't handle thousands of delayed cruise ship passengers. The Strand only has 1 or 2 shops open. Nothing else around. Stores and restaurants are vacated. We are making a note - TAKE SNACKS JUST IN CASE! We will also plan to stop for a light lunch (sandwiches, etc.) as we drive through Houston on the way to Galveston. We want to be able to take such a situation in stride should it occur, and empty stomachs make that pretty much impossible. I would urge anyone boarding Voyager soon to be prepared for this possibility so that you will be able to relax and deal with it should it arise. We were delayed boarding Rhapsody in Galveston 2 years ago by about 2-3 hours due to fog and that was hectic enough, with crowds arriving and having to wait as the previous passengers were just starting to get off. But that was before Ike when Galveston was healthy and we could just spend that delay on the Strand eating and shopping! Let's hope such a severe fog delay doesn't happen again this year. buckanear Posted January 14, 2009 #346 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Why didn't your coworkers go to the seawall which is 99% up and running? I don't think boarding was chaotic, especially compared to how it was handled last year with the fog delay when we just let everyone come in until we ran out of space to put them. This time we didn't take luggage (since there's no place to put it) or passengers unless they were an RCI bus transfer (they need the busses) or in a taxi. People in personal vehicles were turned away not only to ease traffic, but because incoming passengers hadn't vacated parking lots. We manually checked in people and gave them slips to claim their keys later and encouraged them to take one of the shuttles to the seawall area. Everyone coming in before boarding started was given a yellow boarding card which indicated their place in the line and boarding was done by number. Although it seems chaotic because there was 3500 people involved and people don't like being turned away without knowing when the ship will arrive (which the staff doesn't know), the process is part of a larger contingency plan that has been well rehearsed and it keeps people from standing around inside the terminal for hours on end which created some very aggressive mob tendancies last time we did it. theotherchad Posted January 14, 2009 #347 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Why didn't your coworkers go to the seawall which is 99% up and running? That's what I was wondering. I know from friends that the sewall is more or less back in business. As to the Strand, is that an accurate assessment, that only a couple of stores are back?
buckanear Posted January 14, 2009 #348 Share Posted January 14, 2009 The strand area is suffering from some red tape issues. Many store have planned to be open by the end of this month. When are you coming to Galveston?

When are you coming to Galveston? Glad to hear it's getting back to normal, even if it is slower than we hoped it would be. I have always enjoyed the Strand, even if it's just to sit at one of the sidewalk tables at Tola's and have beer. We'll be in Galveston for sure in April, when we cruise on the last Galveston sailing of the Voyager before the TA, but we'll probably spend a weekend in March down there, or at the very least, a day.
