Pre-cruise stay review - LaConcha

Our party of four (DW and I and two sons ages 21 and 18) had a two-night pre-cruise stay at the LaConcha Renaissance (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sjubr-la-concha-a-renaissance-resort/)

resort on December 12 & 13. We had booked through Priceline, which of course only guarantees accommodations for two. Our research indicated that all rooms can accommodate four people, so we took the chance. Also, we were concerned about the possibility of noise, but, again, took the risk.

It turned out great! At check-in we were asked how many people we had and told them four. Not a problem. Then, because they had availability, they gave us an oceanfront room on the eleventh floor (this is a 12 floor resort)! This kept us away from the noisier lower levels and provided an awesome view through the huge ceiling to floor sliding glass doors.

The resort in located in the Condado area which is very convenient. There’s a bus stop right outside the hotel where you can catch a ride to Old Sand Juan (we did this on Saturday). Just ask the concierge for a map and which bus to take. Nearby you have many choices of restaurants. We had dinner at Tijuana’s and Latin Star. Other nearby hotels include the Marriott, Radisson and Holiday Inn Express. There’s also a Walgreen’s nearby where we bought bottled water for the cruise.

The resort is very modern. All the furnishings and fixtures are very contemporary and high quality, yet there is a distinct Latin flavor. There’s plenty of pulsating action at night. The beach area and pool areas are very nice, and the workout facilities are top-notch – the machines all have built-in TV’s, so I could watch ESPN while exercising! There’s live entertainment by the main pool, and an outdoor grill and bar. Service was excellent.

I could easily see us spending time here again, possibly an extended stay for just DW and myself next time!

hiya NC and all!

i also got this hotel through priceline dec 5-7. My bid accepted was 4 star @116 plus taxes. Please remember when bidding on priceline, there are a lot of variables (time of year/day of week/etc etc) so do not depend on this bid all the time.

Im not sure if you saw but at the pool there was a basket filled with fresh fruits in the morning (VERY nice touch).

I got to see 3 types of rooms (my friends also stayed)..Cabana rooms had a nice balcony with table and 2 chairs and were about the same size. In main building there were a bigger room and a smaller room (seems like the "teen" numbers were smaller eg:316,317,418,519 etc etc) i had room 720 quite large and friends had 316 much smaller.

I believe this hotel hasn't gotten a resort rating yet is because it is still under some construction. The casino is completed and operational. There is a RESORT TAX added at the hotel 10% (no chance of having it removed) There was a very inconvenient and poorly handled fire drill at 3am and nobody around to direct anyone away from the building Very poorly handled and complaints led to nothing.

*sweet*
