flamomo Posted December 26, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2008 Since the port of Kona has been deleted from the itinerary,I'm wondering if there was still the evening sail-by, after leaving Hilo, past the lava flowing into the sea. That was one of the best highlights of the cruise earlier this year when Kona was still on the itinerary, and I am hoping to experience it again on our next Hawaii cruise (assuming the lava is still flowing). rcacace Posted December 26, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2008 My guess would be no, since what reason would they have to sail southward, the long way to the next island.
Suzieb Posted December 27, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2008 On our cruise in October we did not do a sail by, due to the fact the lave flow is not on the surface so there is nothing to see

queenofdnile Posted December 27, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2008 On my cruise, depart 12/10/08, the Golden did not sail past the lava flows.
flamomo Posted December 28, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted December 28, 2008 That's disappointing. We did the sail-by in March of this year, when the itinerary was still 15 days, and were thrilled to get to see the lava flowing at night.
sassyredhat Posted December 28, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Don't feel too disappointed. We sailed with HAL last April, and there was so much "VOG" that we really didn't see much lava. We had sailed that itinerary 2 yrs. previously, and we did see alot of lava. Since the volcano started spewing, the vog blocks out alot of the flow.
