Is Samana Domincan Republic or Dominica?

I'm confused. We sail on the Dawn in April and I have been looking for excursions to do in Samana. I am finding posts on both the Dominican Republic forum and the Dominica forum. The posts and excursions mentioned seem completely different from one another, but both mention Samana. So, where are we going? Dominica or DR? And which excursions are we going to be able to do, both ship and independent? Can we do the Emerald pool and Trafalgar falls? How about Cayo Laventado? Can I BE any more confused!? HELP!

It is the Dominican Republic. For sure. I'm on the Dawn on Saturday and am part of a private tour to Playa Rincon. We will see how it goes, but I am looking forward to it. As they might say on NPR...."good times":)

It's in the Dominican Republic. Our cruise went there in August, but we didn't book any excursions, and we heard there was nothing to do right off the ship, so we decided to stay onboard. There is Cayo Levantado which is a beach.

Here's a faaaaaaar away picture

Stopped at Samana last year and there is a very small casino and limited shopping about a 1/2 mile from the port where the tenders drop you off.

We are stopping at Samana again but are not getting off lots of pore children trying to sell sea shells.
