Exchanging a tennis bracelet

My wife purchased a yellow gold tennis bracelet in St Thomas and she would like to trade it in for a white gold one. She purchased it at Diamonds International. Does anyone know what is needed to do this?

I was told that if you go back to the store with the original receipt, they will give you exactly what you paid for it, then she can use the money to purchase her white gold one......I bought a rather expensive ring there in 2006 and they told me i could upgrade anytime, as long as i had the original bill, and i was purchasing something else there.
