Snorkeling Question

Hi everyone! We are leaving on our first cruise on February 7 on the Liberty and going on the western route. I have plans for two of our stops - in Labadee three of my kids are going zip lining and the younger one is going parasailing with either me or my hubby. In Montego Bay we are going to Dunns River Falls. But I have no set plans for Grand Cayman and Cozumel but we kind of know that we want to spend a day at the beach and another day snorkeling. Which place has the better snorkeling? And who should we book with? Thanks!

#1 Grand Cayman

Captain Marvin's Snorkel and Sting Ray tours. You can google him. he started the whole sting ray city thing. They have a great reef snorkel trip, that includes a chance to see a tons or coral, a massive variety of fish as well as a green eel and a nurse shark (they do NOT eat people..LOL). Less expensive than through the ship, smaller groups, personal attention.

#2 Eagle Ray Divers. Small boat, personal attention, drift snorkel trip...NO large crowds getting thumped by unconcisous folks flapping in the water like beached whales. you can also google this great little company (she is from Arkansas, he is from Mexico City)

I also highly recommend a trip to Stingray City when at Grand Cayman. There are lots of great independent operators for this excursion. It is usually cheaper and more fun than on the cruise's excursion. We used Captain Bryan's Buccaneer for a fun sailing day there. http://caymanislandsdiscounts.com/Stingray_City_Buccaneer_Excursion.htm Friends just used him in November and had a fabulous time.

Have a great cruise!

Both my husband and I are avid snorkelers and have done so on various islands throughout the Eastern and Western caribbean. You cannot go wrong in the either the Caymans or Cozumel. There is no need to pay for an excursion in the Caymans as there are several locations that are easy to access yourself as long as you have your own gear and this location is definitely an easy, safe location to get around.

We live in Florida and go to the Keys frequently and Cemetary Beach in the Caymans is among the best we have ever snorkeled. Take a cab or bus to reach (it is several miles from the pier) and you will find it a beautiful location to snorkel. Also, the bus stand to get back is right across the street and comes by every 15 minutes or so. In Cozumel, you can either take an excursion to Palancar Reef or go to the Chanukub (I'm sure this isn't spelled correctly, but cannot remember) Park -- this one just a taxi to. Either one has good snorkeling.

Have a great time!

We always go to Chankanaab Park in Cozumel for snorkeling. It is a nice, clean, park with comfortable chairs and great snorkeling. We haven't been to Grand Cayman yet (both times the water was too rough to tender in) so I can't compare the two.

Have a great cruise!
