Private Tours in Italy

We will be in Med late June/early July. Is it necessary to pre-book a private driver such as romeinlime or can we wait until we dock. On our last cruise in Alaska, at each port their were many drivers that you could hire. We will be head to Pisa/Florence, Naples and Rome.

DO Pre book, that is the only way to gurantee the vendor will have the car and driver there! If there were drivers hanging around it wasn't obvious to me in most of the ports we visited this past summer. We saw many many vans/driver right outside but all appear to have pre-reservations. We were off very early in ever port and never noticed any signs or othersolicitations noticies

 

When we booked we had asked also for some of the better mentioned / recommend drivers. In the case for Romeinlimo they said they assign drivers every week and thus couldn't gurantee 6 months ahead of time. In the end we were very happy with 5 of the 6 drivers we had. The one that was mixed was brand new and the only complaint was he simply did less history and other talking during the long drive into Rome.

Is anyone aware of the cost differences of different tour ccompanies as related to quality? I have found discrepancies of as much as $100 to $200 E for a group of 4...Romeinlimo is one of the higher prices and carsorrento on the lower end. Any opinions?
