letsgocruz1 Posted January 11, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Would you have a recommendation for a nice day at the beach? We took the jitney (their public bus system) for $1 around to the Whyndam hotel, walked thru the hotel and played on the beach there. (We did NOT use their chairs). It used to be though that they would let you use their pool and chairs if you purchased some food or drink; not sure what the rules are now, as its been a while since we've been to Nassau. I know that there is a public beach entrance near the Atlantis hotel as well. You would have to take a taxi to get there. Have you checked out the Bahamas message board?? vacruizer Posted January 11, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Glad you had a great time - we were on the Glory and I have video of you guys sailing from St. Thomas making the turn and the horn battle. I'm uploading it now and will post a link for you. We also stopped in Nassau and had the same opinion. We were there on Sunday and nothing was open, town seemed deserted and dirty, and the people acted as if they had "given up." With two ships in port you would have thought they would see a money making opportunity. We went back to the ship for about 20 minutes - next time we'll just stay onboard. JTRose123 Posted January 11, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 11, 2009 How was the Sushi bar? Did they have spicy tuna rolls? How busy was the sushi bar? Am I going to have to kill someone to get my sushi in a timely manner?

Heirloom Posted January 12, 2009 #10 Share Posted January 12, 2009 .....don't feel the same negatives. Bargaining is fun and doable in straw market.....and we like the casino at Atlantis. For those with interest, we've heard that the Atlantis Aquarium is very nice !

richfret Posted January 12, 2009 #15 Share Posted January 12, 2009 As for Nassau, we always go to Atlantis. It is a great way to spend 3 or 4 hours and it can be practically free except for the taxi to get there (about $5). If you buy a meal or any thing in the shops, then it is pricy. There is plenty to see and the free part of the aquarium is amazing. You can walk all around the hotel at no cost and you will be amazed at what you will see (Fountains, murals, pictures, glass sculptures, etc). I never saw another Hotel like this. There is also a Casino.

Payd Posted January 12, 2009 Author #20 Share Posted January 12, 2009 I am new to this site please excuse me if I mess something up. We are cruising Freedom Feb 28. I have heard another negative comment re Nassau. What should we expect? Cruising w/ DH and 4 teens 13,16, 18 & 18. Thanks We did the "Frommer's Walking Tour", printed it off the internet and explored on our own. I was expecting preserved buildings, stately architecture, something somewhat "grand". We saw "tired" buildings that we poorly maintained. It was a nice walking tour, but most of the time I commented on what I thought was a tired town in serious need of upkeep (paint job on all buildings, trash pickup...). I don't want to give the impression that Nassau was awful though - just not what I expected. If we ever go back we'll go to Atlantis or stay on the ship. You might also expect some very persistent vendors at the straw market, polite but persistent. I hope your family enjoys the time spent in Nassau! Payd Posted January 12, 2009 Author #21 Share Posted January 12, 2009 On the mexican food station, what do they offer? Tacos, burritos, etc.? We are going in september and was wondering what was offered.:) Shrimp ceviche (good), quesadilla's, tacos, chips and lots of fresh salsa's (4 varieties). Great Mexican station - quick too. Am I going to have to kill someone to get my sushi in a timely manner? Usually we are at the sushi bar almost every night. This eight day cruise only once. It was crazy busy, probably a 15 minute wait (don't hurt anyone). Yes to the spicy tuna!
