cruizn2escape Posted January 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Anyone recommend a cuban restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale? We are actually staying in Plantation at the Sheraton Suites but will have a car so driving is not a problem. Thanks in advance for your help! jeffbrig Posted January 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2009 Look for Padrino's, about a mile south on University. It's in the Fountains shopping center.
royalcruz Posted January 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2009 I like Las Vegas, on Broward Blvd. in the first shopping center east of University. They have great lunch specials. We had a Padrino's in Fort Lauderdale, but it closed after a few months. It was good.
Bequia Posted January 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2009 Anyone recommend a cuban restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale? We are actually staying in Plantation at the Sheraton Suites but will have a car so driving is not a problem. Thanks in advance for your help! Since you have a car, why not venture to Little Havana in Miami for the real deal? Versailles is the meeting place of Miami's Cuban power brokers, who meet daily over café con leche to discuss the future of the exiles' fate. A glorified diner, the place sparkles with glass, chandeliers, murals, and mirrors meant to evoke the French palace. There's nothing fancy there -- nothing French, either -- just straightforward food from the home country. The menu is a veritable survey of Cuban cooking and includes specialties such as Moors and Christians (flavorful black beans with white rice), ropa vieja (shredded beef stew), and fried whole fish. Versailles is the place to come for mucho helpings of Cuban kitsch. With its late hours, it's also the perfect place to come after spending your night in Little Havana. Door to door from your hotel it's 40 minutes. If you don't want to travel that far, I'll second jeffbrigs recommendation, Padrino's in Plantation. It's only two minutes from your hotel, the food is very good and they do a booming business. /////
