St. Barts for the Day

That's a long day. There's probably sufficient time to go to St. Barths if you can arrange a ferry ride. In October 2007 on the Caribbean Princess, we booked a tour called "St. Barts on your own". The tour ran from 8:30-4:30, including 3 hours roundtrip ride. The catamaran picked us up at the pier right next to the cruise ship. The catamaran was named "Sweety Pie". The ride was 90 min each way, and the ride was smooth that day. We had read that the waves can be quite choppy, and many people get seasick. That wasn't true for our trip. We had great views of St. Barths, St. Eustatius, Saba and St. Kitts. We really enjoyed the catamaran ride both ways. We sailed back with the wind for part of the return trip, and many enjoyed sitting on the trampoline. The catamaran stopped at a small customs building on the dock, and an agent took a quick glance at our passports. There was a tourist info office nearby, with plenty of info. An island tour was available, but we stayed in town.

We did some shopping and walked through the port of Gustavia. We swam at Shell Beach, and ate at the restaurant Do Brasil, also on the beach. We saw the old Wall House municipal museum. It was a nice little historical museum, and 100% in French. There were also some nice churches, and many yachts in the picturesque harbor. It was a sleepy port in October, when many of the locals were on vacation.
