"Take Out" from a specialty restaurant?

Bummer.. but maybe since Phyllis is talking about a pay restaurant they'll be more accommodating??

Phyllis, your husband is a lucky guy to have a good wife that wants him to be comfortable. I hope you can do take-out to your hearts desire. :)

I wonder if part of the reason that take-out is not usually an option for any of the restuarants is limitations on galley space, and cooking and service staff. These days, there do seem to be many resports that the specialty restaurants are not often filled to capacity. But when they are, I can't imagine that it would be reasonable for them to allow everyone who couldn't get a reservation to order dinner to go. That's going to take time and service away from the pax who are actually sitting in the restaurant dining. I can picture 100 pax lined up asking for take out meals while the galley becomes a frantic mess trying to keep up with restaurant orders and an extra 100 meals that they are not set up to prepare. At the same time, the pax in the restaurant would be waiting significantly longer just to be served at all.

IMO, it's unreasonable to ask all the restuarants to offer take-out dining. They're not set up to do that.

The restaurants are not set up for take out service, thats what room service is for. If they had take out what do you think would happen, - bad experience - more lines -

and something for them to complain about, IMO keep it like it is, no take out use room service.

Wow Phyllis.. your husband sounds a lot like my brother.. LOL.

Maybe someday we will end up on the same ship and you can join Doug and me in some of the specialty restaurants. You sound like a fun person to me and would be interesting to get to know you over dinner. You know, just as I was typing this, I had this thought. You said you did not want to be a "burden" to people from the M&G, however if I find you interesting just from your postings, I bet many of them would enjoy having dinner with you. Might not be a bad idea to post something like this thread on your roll call but just asking if folks might enjoy some M&G dinners a few nights of the cruise.. etc. I have read of many of them here on the boards..

I do hope you get to try all the foods you want to try and I hope your cruise is a blast.

Thanks for the kind words, Terry. You'll see a couple of posts below yours that someone in our roll call DID invite me to dine with them. A party of 3, mother, son and his auntie. Perfect. I won't be breaking into any couple's conversations! Plus the older ladies will be more my age! I responded to him on our roll call. Thanks for suggesting it. :)

In the meantime I think I've talked DH into doing the Salsa sangria even if he doesn't try lobster tacos with me. ha

  • 3 weeks later...

It was interesting to read about not being able to carry out at Blue Lagoon. I went late one night because I wanted some chicken wings. I think I was the only one in there, ordered, got my wings and headed back to my cabin to eat them.

It didn't ever occur to me that it might not be allowed.

By the way, the spicy wings were tasty!

I was also denied getting take out from the Blue Lagoon on the Dawn.

Really James?? That is concerning to me. On the Star I got an order of their chicken wings to go almost every night after we left the casino for the night. I wonder if that is something that is ship to ship or if they made some kind of new "rule". We are going on the Dawn in Nov. Hope they don't tell me I can't take my beloved chicken wings to go.

I actually love the idea of take-out and eating a romantic dinner alone on our own balcony. I'll be on the Pearl in a couple of weeks and will definitely ask about it. Thanks for the idea!

Peggy

Maybe room service would work better for you. Plates, silver ware, glasses. We had the typical styrofoam containers for take-out. Maybe that's only us. Enjoy your balcony! It's my favorite thing!:)

I think (or hope) it was just a crew member on a power trip!
