iamlisad Posted November 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2004 On our last visit to Cozumel we went to Chakanaab and did the dolphin thing. Kids loved it. The snorkeling was good but getting in and out of the water on the slippery rocks was not pleasant... at least not to me. So I'm looking for a suggestion for the clearest calmest water with the smoothest access possible. We would consider renting a car if necessary or using taxis, taking ship's tour, whatever would help us find this kind of setting for the day. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! cruisinqt Posted November 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 16, 2004 Lisa, we had the same complaint when we went to Chankanab in January. The snorkeling was good, the beach was pretty, but we hated the whole "steps into the water" thing. I know Chankanab has a normal beach area but it's very small and usually crowded with families and children. Most of Chankanab is for snorkeling with steps to enter the water. We just got back from Cozumel and this time we were determined to find a nice "normal" beach where you can just walk right into the water without steps. Well, we found it at Paradise beach. It's a short taxi cab ride away, maybe ten minutes at the most. The cab ride was $12 for our family of four each way. They have a great restaurant, showers, restrooms, and it's free to enter. The lounge chairs aren't those curved plastic ones that are h*ll to get out of like the ones at Chankanab. They have the nice reclining lounge chairs that either lay completely flat or adjust to sit up like you see around the pool area at a nice resort. The lounge chairs and umbrellas are free to use.;) If you pay a one time $5 fee, you get unlimited use of their watertoys. This includes the water trampoline, the floating iceberg that you climb up and then slide off into the water, use of their snorkel gear, kayaks, and floatie mats. The beach is quite pretty and the water is crystal clear. There weren't any huge waves or anything and the water was very calm. Calm enough for our 5 and 7 year old girls to thoroughly enjoy themselves there. We spent the entire week there just recently and it was one of the highlights of our trip.:D
solita Posted November 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 16, 2004 Paradise Beach is just a good all around place to be in Cozumel. No need to rent a car...the East side of the island is the turbulent side usually. You DO NOT want your kids any where near the water over there due to bad undertow and currents. On the other hand, you are almost guaranteed duck pond conditions at Paradise's nice gently sloping sandy beach. txfirstcruiser Posted November 20, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 20, 2004 PB Tom - we have plans to plop on your chairs and sign our Pineapple Nation membership cards the week of Dec 20. DH and DDs want to parasail. I'd value your recommendation on who to use. Thanks in advance and I think we'll have to pack Spaghetti-O's too.
