kellyclayt Posted January 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2009 I highly recommend The Path Between the Seas by David McCullough. This book gives a fascinating account of the creation of the Panama Canal and the times in which it was created. I read this book recently and it made me even more excited for my upoming Panama Canal cruise!

choochoocruiser Posted January 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2009 I recently ordered both books in a package deal at an excellent price from Amazon.com. Received them Friday and they are both excellent.

Don't read much non-fiction but this book almost reads like fiction when it goes into all the details and political intrigue.
Sparky333 Posted January 26, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Another vote for the McCullough book. It really made seeing the Panama Canal so much more meaningful -- knowing the history of how it was built. Incredible story.
robtulipe Posted January 26, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2009 I found McCullough's book in the ship's library on the first day of our Regal Princess PC cruise so check that possibility or through your local library. I read it while on the cruise which made the cruise much more interesting as you have a better insight as to how it all happened. It is quite a long read but an excellent one.
