We will be traveling from Seattle round trip May 24th to Alaska and wanted to know if the mini-suite balconies are covered, if so on what decks? Which side of the ship is the best for this sailing? We are booked for guar/AD category. Thanks for everyone on this site! It really helps those of us that are newbies!

Only covered minis are located on the Emerald Deck, category AD mini suites. But if you booked a guarantee AD, there is a very slim chance that is where you will end up, as especially for Alaska, many will book specific minis in this category and mark their bookings as 'no upgrade accepted' just to make sure they have a covered balcony. My guess, you will end up in either an AA-AB or AC mini suite, which all have exposed balconys. Best of luck though! ;)

The AD catagory, the only minis covered, is currently waitlisted, so the chance of you getting an AD is slim to none. These minis are the cabins that are booked immediately, but you never know what can happen once final payment time arrives.

Just to add my 2 cents:

The last Minisuite I had on the star was cabin D409. We like to sit out on the balcony late at night and just listen to the waves against the ship.

Every night @ approx $ 1:00am, the pool crew would hose down the pool deck. The wash off would flood our balcony. Since these balcony are compleatly open, we would get soaked. This happened every night.
