Annefran Posted January 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2009 DD (16) & I are making a stop in Labadee this upcoming April on LOS. Thinking of doing the zipline and wanted to know what your experiences were with it. I have arthritis in my hip but I'm in pretty good shape. Will I be able to do it....thoughts please? Happy Cruising! :D
esbie11 Posted January 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2009 I have another zip-line question:D On the San Juan port of call board, someone posted that they sometimes change the weight limitation for the zip-line, and that it can drop from the 275lb limit to 200lbs. Has anyone heard of this happening? My fiance and I already have this excursion booked for our April cruise, and he weighs 210lbs. Can/do they really drop the weight limit by 75lbs?!?
Annefran Posted February 3, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted February 3, 2009 Hi all, would REALLY like to know how you enjoyed the ziplining at Labadee. Plus if a woman (me) at 49 would have any difficulty? Thanks!:p
esbie11 Posted February 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I haven't done it yet but have it booked for our April cruise. I have only heard good reviews about it and that, despite the fact that it is a bit expensive, it is worth the money to do it. And my mom (who is 55) is also doing it with us. I don't think you'll have a problem doing it. If you are cruising after April I can write back to let you know how she does:D

savgerl Posted February 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2009 I did this with my mom (57) in October. It is awesome and my mom had no issues. This is the only place you can zipline over the beach and its a must do. And its operated by the cruise line so I felt safe - the island options always make me a bit nervous in terms of safety. There is a "practice" line so you can get the hang of it and they can make sure you are ok to go on the longer one. You walk to that one and then they load you in a jeep to get to the real one. They have guys that hook you up at the top and unhook you at the bottom and help you get down. It is awesome and a must do!! Enjoy!!
ShayRue Posted February 23, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 23, 2009 I did it last year. It was ok. It was slower than I thought it would be, but then I'm also the type who likes fast cars and fast roller coasters. It's a nice little scenic float down to the bottom. The only thing that may be a problem, depending on the strength of the person, is at the end when you stop. It's a pretty hard hit at the bottom. mrdrdoso Posted February 23, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2009 we just did the zip lining in labadee last week, it was not as scary as i thought it would be considering it is so high. we did the zip in belize last year and that was thrill seeking. This is safe and i have height issues and that didn't bother me one bit. the quides did a fabulous job the only problem you might have is when you stop mostly in the practice run me and all my friends legs swung up over our head and if she has hip issues you might have a problem, you are securly strapped in so that is not a problem. hey i thought the vendors on the island are alot more dangerous than the ziplining, thats what you might want to avoid. i will go off the beaten path on this one, dont even try to shop in the market, they beg, they pull on your arm it was horrible. I wanted to shop but couldnt take the begging and once someone grabbed me to go into there store that was it, and beware they will put bracelets on your arm and tie them on and your stuck, you have to be forceful and say no. honestly zip enjoy the beach ,and definatly drink a labadozee, that is the be drink ever. have fun whatever you do......................................mary
sharktums Posted February 25, 2009 #10 Share Posted February 25, 2009 The zip lining at Labadee was great! I have a full review with pictures and a video about halfway down this page: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=677774 It's not crazy thrilling or fast, just a lot of fun. I recommend booking one of the first two times for a couple of reasons: - It gives you an escort directly to the first tender - They can close the lines down later in the day if the weather deteriorates - It gives you plenty of time to do another excursion or just relax on the beach Oh, and yes they can tell you a lower weight restriction due to weather conditions but I don't think it happens very often as the lines are all of different tension and based on your weight they put you on a specific line and give you a specific position to keep. Make sure to follow their instructions! One of my friends wanted to go fast and just did what he wanted on the line and hit REALLY hard at the bottom. He's young so he was fine, but if someone with any problems or older had done that they may have gotten hurt. They do err on the side of caution though as I was put on a specific line and told what positions to do, I followed EXACTLY and ended up getting stuck about 50 feet from the platform! It was hilarious though, everyone was taking pictures and they threw me a rope!!!

You are right, they actually had to close down the lowest weight line due to no-one made it to the end. The actually raised the min. limit to 110 that day due to no wind. It was fun and I'm glad I did it.
dnwside Posted February 25, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 25, 2009 That's too funny! As a person afraid of Heights I would not do it but would gladly laugh at everyone else.
