After a bad first cruise.....

You love how judgmental WE are? Here's a suggestion: take your own advice and just give it a rest there chief. Well over half of the people who responded here said exactly the same thing, in about as many ways as it could possibly be said to the OP: that cruises aren't for everyone, and that she needs to take take a different direction. Yet she continues to insist that she knows best. Fine. Then let her figure it our for/by herself. Who do you think you are to post something telling me and Canuk15 what to do and/or how to do it? Get over yourself. Better yet...get some serious help for your obvious issues. You're trying to turn this into some sort of North/South thing? Seriously...get a grip on reality, if that's even remotely possible for you.

ROFLMAO...hahaha...you so funny :p ...hilarious! :D:p Oh that's rich...you are soooo funny!!! :D:p

I can see why a first cruise where almost everything that could go wrong does go wrong would make your friend think cruises are not for her. I think you're a great friend for trying to get her to give it another try. Since she was initally excited about cruises and expected to love it, I think your instincts are on target that she will probably love it on the second try. It's not very likely that absolutely everything could go wrong a second time.

A four day cruise would be a perfect short get away. If you have a lot of friends in common, maybe turn it into a girlfriends cruise. If one person gets sick, there would still be others to hang out with. You could print out some reviews of the ship or ships you are thinking of booking, so she could see some positive comments about cruising. Also maybe some pictures of the ships themselves.

Grits53, I admire your reasonable and positive responses in spite of some of the rude replies you have gotten here. I'd love to be on a cruise with you sometime!:)

WOOHOO! I check in this morning and find a bunch of nice people posting on my thread! Thank you! I appreciate your understanding and your offers of advice.

Thanks for the invite to the Looter Rebel cruise. It sounds great, but it would be cost prohibitive, due to the flight to the west coast. We're limited to the ports of Galveston and NOLA. I totally agree that having friends from CC along on a cruise takes it to another level of fun! We had that on our Miracle cruise last Oct. We had such a great group from the roll call, that there was never a dull moment on that cruise! I know ya'll will have a blast!

Tapi, thanks for your interest, but I really don't want to trash a particular ship. I feel partly responsible for the bad cruise, because I made a bad choice of ships and excursions. (A real learning experience for me at my friend's expense!) Then there were some other factors that caused things to go wrong but were out of our control. There was no conflict with other people or between my friend and myself. It was just a bad cruise.

Aww, that is awfully nice of you! Trouble is, we are limited on the amount of time we can be away from the farm. We have soooooo many critters to take care of, and we can't leave them in the care of others for that long. But I surely appreciate the offer! And by the way, we have made the drive from here to southern AZ many times. We have good friends who live there. Let me tell you, that is one LONG, BORING 1200 mile drive from here! No offense to the residents of the areas along the way, but I don't know how they can stand looking out at nothing but DIRT and scraggly bushes with thorns on them....... So I would advise you to plot your course through CO and across, if you want pretty scenary as you go. ;)

Hey, guess what, BullDogChief! I found the "Ignore List" option in the control panel and have blocked skay. She can post all the nasty remarks she wants, and they will never show up on my screen! She will just be talking to herself, as far as I'm concerned. WOOHOO! What a nice option for us to have. :D Thanks, Cruise Critic!

Well, you might want to swing back down through Shreveport on the way back and eat at one of the casinos. They have all kinds of seafood goodies on their all you can eat buffets on Fridays! And maybe we could join you for dinner! Thanks again for the offer. That is very nice of you. :)

My first cruise was horrendous as well - at the time I swore I would never do THAT again. :) However, we decided to give it another go and have been hooked ever since. I just love the affordability of it (nearby ports help!) and waking up in a new exciting place everday is pretty darn cool. Good luck convincing her! I always said I'd try anything twice!

Who do you think you are? Seriously. You obviously feel the need to meddle and mix into situations way beyond your sphere of influence/control. Mind your own business, and your life -- and the life of those around you -- will undoubtedly be enhanced.

Why do you have to be so rude?

I was seasick my entire time at sea on my first cruise went into a Tropical Disturbance. Your probably saying that I was crazy to take a cruise into a Tropical Disturbance. If you are, yes you are correct. It took me years to decide to cruise again. Since then I have experienced some wonderful cruises. If your friend likes to read, maybe I should send her a copy of my book telling about these experiences?

Happy Cruising!

I agree with several things written here and some that came to mind:

First, (since she's definitely not traumatized of being in all that water!) I would tell her how much this would mean to me, we would talk over what all happened on the first cruise and reason some of those out that were bothering her. Let her know things have changed since those happened. I would let her know I've learned alot more about alternatives. I definitely would recommend cruising in the late May to late July, seas are much smoother. We would both wear the patch so she doesn't feel like she's the only one with sea sickness issues. Maybe go to a travel show in your local town area. This way she could hear stories herself of folks goods and bads. You're gonna have to reintroduce her to this idea. You probably can't get her to come online so you'll have to print the good stuff when you run across it like this thread here, where folks have admitted the good moments and the "I never thought I'd do it again, time heals most things". I liked the one that recommended taking a land trip and cruising to Islands in between. My sister and I went to Ohio and they had a tour where you were on a small ship and it went to two different islands and allowed you time to get off, walk around, shop and one island we ate and I drove a golf court around to see the island. Has anyone in her family ever cruised before, maybe you could the help from another source? It's like when people don't want to hear the truth from the folks that's closest to them. Good luck since you do have some time to work with, but I'm not so sure booking and then trying to make her will work. I don't think you mentioned how long the first one was. Try do a search on tours available at the islands, see if some of that would intrigue her and New Orleans is another matter altogether. Has she ever been there?

That would be nice. Do you have a web site where you sell this book?

Thank you for your nice, informative post. I appreciate that! The first cruise was a 5 day. I was hoping to get her on a 4 day, thinking that might sound better to her, in case she didn't enjoy it. The only problem with a land based vacation to the islands is the cost of flying there and back. I think she would like that idea, but I don't think I could afford to pay for both of us to do that.

I wish the flame throwers would not be in EVERY thread.....gosh

The "ignore" feature works wonders for this problem! Once you have identified a poster as a trouble maker, simply go to your User CP and the Ignore List and add their user name to that list. Never again will you see their venomous posts! Pretty cool feature, don't you think? :D
