ImADaneFan Posted February 4, 2009 #26 Share Posted February 4, 2009 I am hoping to get a call on my upcoming Alaska Cruise in May. We are currently 85 days til sailing and both GV suites are available. I would love to upgrade our AB and AF to one of those suites. What do you think are the chances. We got an upsell call last Friday for our cruise on 2-21-09. We got an upsell to the GV. We had 2 staterooms, a BA and an AF. So, the fairy does call.:D
BikerAl Posted February 4, 2009 #27 Share Posted February 4, 2009 I've read all the messages regarding tipping the Butler and Concierge. I'm still not sure what to do, any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking that we would definitely be using the both of them, so I plan on tipping accordingly, but there is such a wide variety of opinions and one more would be great. We used $10 per day per as a starting point. I do have a few generic questions: 1. We are traveling with others, so I assume that I can ask for reservations for all of us at a speciality restaurant. Yes you can. 2. Do you know if cabin #11010 is under either the Stardust Lounge or its restrooms? Wondering if there is a noise issue with this cabin. We'll be enjoying ourselves, so early nights aren't on the agenda, but curious just the same. 3. Is there an early embarkation time for suites? Yes, you will be the first on board following B2B cruisers. 4. Is the tub in the masterbath a jetted tub or just regular? Not that either would make a difference, I just know that some of the ships do and others don't.

ruhnke28 Posted February 5, 2009 #29 Share Posted February 5, 2009 I received an upsell call yesterday. Caller ID listed it as an "unknown number" so I almost did not answer. I got offered an upgrade from AE to A2 for $1000 per person. While a good deal for an AMAZING suite, this is not something I could afford. FYI, my cruise leaves in 10 days so don't expect any upsell calls sooner than a few weeks before your departure.

JRinBalt From looking at the deck plans, it looks like it's under the restrooms. I wouldn't worry too much about the noise.
tdcjerry Posted February 5, 2009 #31 Share Posted February 5, 2009 I'll stick with our GV upsell, but I won't say how I got it or who was called. I think the only people walking above our Villa will be other people that are staying in our Villa.
Four4us Posted February 6, 2009 #32 Share Posted February 6, 2009 NCL called while I was gone but did not leave a message. Only noticed the missed caller ID on the phone. Called the number back on caller ID and ask there was a problem with my reservation and they said nope no one from NCL called you..... we always leave a message when we call. NO they didn't. We have 3 inside rooms on deck 10 for our March cruise. Would love to get the chance to upgrade to at least one balcony. Had our 25th anniversary late last year but did not get the chance to get away. Would be great to upgrade. O well maybe they will call again. :(
bradtoon Posted February 7, 2009 #33 Share Posted February 7, 2009 By reading all these posts, it seems like upsells are common. And it also seems like they are just with people in suites getting upgrades to a better suite. Is this true?
Demonyte Posted February 7, 2009 #34 Share Posted February 7, 2009 By reading all these posts, it seems like upsells are common. And it also seems like they are just with people in suites getting upgrades to a better suite. Is this true? Actually I've seen much more upsells from balcony to minisuite than from a real suite to another and the probability for "lower" upsells is higher because of the number of cabins in different categories. Also there has been a lot of upsells from minisuites to real suites, I don't even remember seeing too many messages about upsells from AE+ to higher category. For example for our future cruise there are still plenty of minisuites available but almost all the real suites are sold so I think that there will be plenty of upsells from lower categories to max. minisuites but not much higher. brunolvr Posted February 8, 2009 #36 Share Posted February 8, 2009 For our cruise on the Pearl to Alaska in 2007, we booked an AE suite. We got an upsell call (that we couldn't refuse) to a Deluxe Owner's Suite (A2 15500). For our cruise on the Pearl to Alaska in 2008, we booked the same AE suite as the year before (AE 9670) and got an upsell call (also couldn't refuse) to an Owner's Suite (AA 9004). So both of our upsells were from suites to better suites!:)

secondhand Posted February 8, 2009 #39 Share Posted February 8, 2009 I've read all the messages regarding tipping the Butler and Concierge. I'm still not sure what to do, any insight would be greatly appreciated. JRinBALT I have stayed in the GV (not on this ship)....tipping is up to you. We used the butler like crazy and he was very good so we gave him at least 100 a day. We never used the conceirge but still gave her a tip, more like 10-20 a day. Most people will tell you however that it is really up to your own comfert level. Hey DANE, you r going to LOVE the GV...it's a great experiance. You mentioned both that you had called and that they had called you for the upsell? How did it finally come about and was it heavily discounted? tdcjerry, I assume you know someone at NCL? Usually NCL calls and try to get you to book another cruise. I have had several calls from NCL on my caller id when I was home and would mock excitement... either 'I won a cruise' because there was a contest or 'we've been upgraded, honey' only to have the caller from NCL trying to sell us another cruise. BTW, I always book through a TA so I know they wouldn't be calling me directly.... When I see a NCL id when I'm not home, they have never left a message, either.... One of these days I'll get an upsell offer, I know it!!
flgirl Posted February 10, 2009 #41 Share Posted February 10, 2009 If you have a Travel agent, screening and not missing these calls are not a problem. Today my ILs got another upsell (we don't). Our Travel agent knows where to find me and I know where to find my In-laws. We never get calls about future cruises or anything like that. Using a travel agent is always worth it for us for a cruise.

tdcjerry Posted February 13, 2009 #44 Share Posted February 13, 2009 about four weeks or so, but it can depend on how many cabins are left to sell, like suites.

fridaythe13th Posted March 1, 2009 #46 Share Posted March 1, 2009 How close to your sail date would they call? From what I have read it could be anywhere from a month out up to the day before sailing. We got the call about a week before.
