also what to do on KIEL?

dave

Your ship is going through Kiel-Canal if it is small enough...

So Dover to Kiel... sounds for me like HAL... or Fred Olsen... The Fred Olsen Ships normally do... and HAL: PRINSENDAM does it usually. MSC and COSTA do not.

The 2009 list will be released here (in Spring):

http://www.wsa-kiel.wsv.de/service/Kreuzfahrer_Winter/index.html

It's the official homepage of the Kiel-Canal-Administration.

The good times are over when NORWEGIAN DREAM passed the canal as she was able to a reclinable funnel and an own fan-club. But since she is not anymore in NCL's fleet the NORWEIGAN JEWEL is skipping over Kiel-Canal and no more events like this.

We entered the Canal in Brunsbüttel around 8 pm and arrived the next morning around 6 am the other end. Depends how many stops you have to let other ships pass and how you you stay.

The numbers of locks you can find here:

http://www.wsa-kiel.wsv.de/Kanal/index.html

It's only two:

access North Sea in Brunsbüttel

access Baltic Sea in Kiel-Holtenau

It's only in German but we made such a passage and you can have some impressions here:

and

Last not least: what can you do in Kiel:

Other options from Kiel:

Lübeck:

and Hamburg

Well - it was nice - I expected more around her last NCL-sailing...

Have not you seen the blog???

http://heinbloed-dream.blogspot.com

Of course with NCL it's NORWEGIAN JADE... while you are on the way from Dover to Kiel I am on the way from Rotterdam to Southampton...

Another UK cruise will be BOUDICCA in August.

With MSC ORCHESTRA you do not have a chance to pass the canal so you will go once around Denmark to Kiel. I just returned with MSC FANTASIA.

Anyway: have fun...

Are you in transit to Copenhagen or disembark in Kiel?

If you are in transit:

Within 20. and 24.05.2009 MSC ORCHESTRA is calling Kiel three times:

20., 22. and 24.05.2009.

I am not sure on which date you are calling Kiel.

is there much to see?

depends what you are expecting... do you like shopping??? especially alcohol???

i remember an actor hans gugast being born there. he is on the american soap THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS.

no idea whom you are talking about.

Was checking the website but could not find such an actor:

No problem - since we call Kiel ourselves on May 2, 2009 I need to do some researches myself...

We are doing as well Dover - Copenhagen on EURODAM in July.
