cruisingbooboo Posted February 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2009 I am considereing booking a private tour in Samana, I am curious how is it getting off the ship and on the tenders in the morning? Do all the passengers who purchased a ship excursion get off first? about how long does that process take? I need an estimated time we will be off the ship. Thanks

I arrived at 8:30 and was clear to leave and was escorted down to the tenders. We were told that the ships excursions would leave first but I think they used the front of the ship to Samana and the back for ship tours. The ride to port was about 10 minutes. I have pictures of the port and tenders in my signature.
cruisingbooboo Posted February 14, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted February 14, 2009 So you were on a ship excursion or a private one? So do you think it was slow getting off the ship or the crowds moved at a fast pace? Do you have an estimate as to how many tenders were running that morning? I have been in Grand Cayman and waited in the stairwell for over 1 hour waiting to be called to tender off, very frustrating!
Nickymjw1 Posted February 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2009 we went on a private excursion as well and it did not take long at all because they use 2 different exits. Most private tour people go Cayo Levantado and use the "back" exit. They use the cover lifeboats as tenders. I think to go to shore they run 2 at the time, but they can hold 100 people each. I can't recall exactly, but if the ship tenders at 9am, we were off before 10am, and we do not get in line early. Let the early crowd go and save yourself the time of standing in line. Here are some pictures of the tender at the dock and inside.

I have been in Grand Cayman and waited in the stairwell for over 1 hour waiting to be called to tender off, very frustrating! I took a private tour with Casa Dorado. As far as the tenders, I cant recall how many they had running but when I left the ship at 9:00 there were no lines. I also returned to the ship at about 2:30 and once again, there was no line to board a tender to the ship. A lot of people I spoke with opted to take a ship excursion or just stay on board because they did not know much about the port.
