I know there has been a ton of posts re: hotel, but....

I am so confused! The only other time we sailed out of San Juan (last year) we flew in on the same day so we didn't stay. We (me, dh, dd 8, ds 6) will be arriving late on a Saturday night (around 10:30pm). We will board the ship as soon as possible the next day. All I need is something clean, comfy for 4, and close to the pier (or the airport I guess). I don't need a bunch of amenities. I would like to stay under $200 a night. I don't know what area is closest to the pier. We usually always stay at Marriott but the only one available is a resort and more then we need. I also don't really want some huge place that is going to take us a hour to check in and get to our room with a ton of luggage!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have done a TON of research reading all these boards, reviews and I too wanted clean, room for sleeping in. We are staying in Howard Johnsons in OLD San Juan. TWO nights for a total of $207, so 103.50 per night. I would say that meets your price, it is close to the smaller pier, and a short taxi to the Pan American Pier. Now it is NOT fancy doesn't have a pool, but meets all your criteria, I even wrote them that I would be arriving late, the emailed back with a message of No problem. They also will hold luggage if you don't want to go to pier right away. I am looking forward to the stay even have cont. breakfast included.

Hope this helps

I have stayed at the Howard Johnson OSJ and like the location and price for Old San Juan. Just a few pointers, Ask for a room on 1st or 2nd floor...elevator only works now and then and is way too slow when it does. We only used it to transport the luggage.

Know that only 6 rooms in the hotel have windows, they are their suites.

The room we were in would not fit 4, though it was clean and air conditioned.

There are no piers you would want to carry your luggage to, so you will be taking a taxi to the ship.

You might want to look at hotwire or priceline. Lots of people on this site get hotels for around $100 per night and end up with nice hotels...just keep to 3 star or better.

Try the hampton inn or embassy suites...

There are 2 courtyard by marriotts in SJ....as well as the Renaissance La Concha and the Full Service SJ Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino.....actually the Isla Verde Courtyard is a bit "resort-like".

You sail from Pan American pier...there is nothing nearby.....

you COULD do some research on betterbidding dot com or biddingfortravel.com and try Hotwire, as with HW you can specify that you need to have bedding for 4 people in a room

I have a question that is going to sound really cheap and sneaky (oh com'on you've thought these things too....)

The Sheraton books a room with 2 queens for 2 ppl for about 270. They book the same room for 4 ppl for 460............

Do you think I could get away with 4 people for the 2 person rate? its just one night .....

I have always done this, for years! I just sneak the other couple in or tell em to come a few minutes later or whatevs. I often book on priceline as well, and it doesn't make a difference. Works best when the hotels have additional entrances but honestly I would never pay for 4 people in one room.

I stayed there about a year or so ago. There were four of us in the room, and we paid $195 plus taxes (22%). We didn't hide the fact of how many in the room either and I don't remember if they even asked. The beds in our room were full size. Maybe other rooms are larger to hold 2 queen size beds. Also, my SIL and BIL were in another room and paid the same rate as us.

Why pay $270?? Hotwire has the sheraton for 99-119 per night very consistently. The Sheraton Old San Juan is super easy to identify. You could each have your own room and it would still be a lot cheaper.

Let me know if you want help identifying the Old San Juan Shearton on Hotwire.

Priceline will be cheaper than hotwire, but you can't specify that you want 2 beds.

BTW: Based on the photos on tripadvisor, I think the beds are doubles not queens if that matters.

Hope this is helpful,

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, If you could give me an idea how to be SURE that it's the same hotel that would be great! I have an older person with special need so hotel can't be far away....

ps the weekend I'm looking at is Easter so maybe why prices are so crazy.

Hi there,

I booked the weekend before EAster (April 3-5) for $119.00. I"m thinking you will be right in the same ball park.

There's a thread I posted on here giving the directions. Someone used the info and said it worked out perfectly.

Basically, you need to find an EXACT amenity match. I used betterbidding for background info. They were great. Of course, nothing is 100%, but I'd bet the farm with an exact match for this propert in Old San Juan.

Here's the thread I described the amenties to look for:

Good luck!

Cheryl :P)

I booked the Sheraton this week on hotwire for $109. I'd happily pay the extra $6 to be even closer and have windows. I don't care if we're only there 1 night, no windows is a deal breaker for me.
