Best place to see the SS United States in Philly?

Hey everyone,

Next week I'm going with a friend to go see the SS US in Philly. I know shes docked at pier 82 but what are the best ways to see her? Any secret side roads..parking lot..anything??

The SS United States is moored on the south side of the Walt Whitman Bridge on the Delaware River. There is an IKEA store right across the street from the ship. The property is secured by a chain link fence, however, you still will be able to be fairly close to the ship and are able to see both sides of her as well as her bow area. I stopped to see her several years back and got some great photos from all angles. I have heard of people asking someone and being able to get past the gates to see her. However, I went on a Sunday and the shipyard was vacant. Despite her aged condition, she still is majestic to see. Good luck!
