sheshells Posted February 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2009 I'd like to hear people's favorite restaurants: not just the O.K. ones, but the ones that really stood out! We will be traveling between Anchorage and Denali, staying in Anchorage, Talkeetna and Healy. We'll also have several nights in Seward. suggestions? wolfie11 Posted February 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2009 Rosie's in Healy for a great breakfast or sandwich lunch - love their egg salad! South of the park, 229 is a good place. The film crew of Into the Wild ate there a lot. Ray's Waterfront in Seward.
Nancyquilts Posted February 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2009 If you are going by Girdwood at breakfast or lunch time, stop by the Bake Shop (behind the Jade shop). We drive down from Anchorage just for the bottomless soup (you can have seconds and even thirds).

The film crew of Into the Wild ate there a lot. Ray's Waterfront in Seward. In Denali area Parks 229 (at the 229 milemarker on Parks Highway) was our favorite the whole trip. http://229parks.com/ In Seward we liked Loly's Bistro. http://www.yolysbistro.com/ In Anchorage the Snow City Cafe was highly recommended on these boards last year and it did not disappoint. We loved it!!! We also enjoyed the Moose's Tooth. It is a great local establishment with good pizza. It was a fun place. http://www.snowcitycafe.com/ http://www.moosestooth.net/ In Healy we tried the highly recommended (on this board) Black Diamond Grill. We enjoyed it, just not as much as 229 Parks. The owners of our B&B highly recommended Rosies, but we never got a chance to eat there. http://www.blackdiamondgolf.com/blackdiamondgrill.html In Talkeetna we really enjoyed the Wildflower Cafe. kenish Posted February 18, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2009 I second Thorn's, it even got mentioned in the LA Times last summer. Order a bowl of halibut, but split it between 2-3 people. Pure heaven! La Hacienda in downtown Anchorage...great Alaska/Mexican fusion menu (e.g. salmon chimichangas). We're from the LA area and are pretty discriminating about Mexican food....normally eating Mexican too far north is a mistake, but not in this case. At Denali, I do NOT recommend the Gold Rush Dining Room at the McKinley Village Hotel. The boring food is grossly overpriced and the service is inattentive and unfriendly. I kick myself for not driving a few miles down the road to 229 Parks.
