Nerina Posted February 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2009 Anyone who has visited Samana please give us your suggestions &/or recommendations. We will be arriving on EOS the end of March & are at a loss as to what we want to do at this port. Really didn't get much feedback on the Sea Lion encounter. And what we have read about it so far we have lost interest. :( We are considering Cayo Levantado & would like to hear from those of you who have visited Samana. We are looking forward to reading your recommendations. :) Past Cruises: 2003 Serenade of the Seas – Canada 2004 Voyager of the Seas – Western Caribbean 2005 Jewel of the Seas – Westbound Transatlantic 2006 Explorer of the Seas – Bermuda 2006 Explorer of the Seas – Bermuda 2007 Radiance of the Seas – Hawaii Circle 2008 Explorer of the Seas – Southern Caribbean 2008 Eurodam – NYC Introduction Cruise Future Cruises: 2009 Explorer of the Seas – Eastern Caribbean 2009 Norwegian Jewel – New England & Canada
Lard Greystoke Posted February 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2009 Cayo Levantado is 1/2 of a small private island. It is pretty and tame. Nice little boomerang-shaped beach and a few acres of pleasant scenery. A bit of entertainment, you have to pay for food. Pleasant and relaxing. They had lots of chairs and plenty of palm trees for shade. There were a lot of vendors selling very nice costume jewelry etc at reasonable prices but be prepared to bargain. There was food and drink available but they recommended to only buy from vendors that displayed cruise ship approved signs as they are all run by locals. The ride to get to the beach was a little rough a lot of people got wet. I think the driver trying to give us a thrill as he went very fast . The tenders are also under local rule. They do not let RCCL use their tenders that are quite large. These tenders are small and only hold about 40 people. This excursion is not available to to any one with mobility issues. No wheelchairs , scooters ,walkers etc. I am really glad we did this excursion as I have heard there is not much in Samana and most passengers that just wandered around had nothing good to say about this port.
