Trunk Bay - best & cheapest way to get there?

The best, cheapest, and most fun way to get to St John is to take the open air taxi/buses. The taxi's at the terminal were $15 or $20 per person to Red Hook (where you take the ferry to St John). If you are willing to walk 2 or 3 blocks further you can take the local taxi/bus. It is only $2 per person!! How you get there is to walk all the way out of the terminal and take a left on the main road. Follow that road for about 2 to 3 blocks to a K Mart. You can wait in front of the K Mart parking lot for the $2 taxi. That taxi will take you right to the red hook ferry. Don't listen to the taxi drivers at the terminal that tell you there is not a cheaper way to get there then them!

Once you get to St John's via the Red Hook Ferry you must take a taxi to trunk bay as it is too far to walk. It does take a while to complete the whole trip to trunk bay, but it is well worth it!!! It's actually a good thing that it is a ways from Charlotte Amalie because it would become run down from all of the visitors (much like Maegan's bay) if it was closer.

We only paid $10 pp for the taxi from Havensight to Red Hook. There is also a ferry that leaves from Crown Bay, it's $11.10 pp The Red Hook ferry is $6.10 pp. The Red Hook ferry leaves at 8:00 and then every hour on the hour. The Crown Bay ferry starts it's hourly run at 9:00. The Crown Bay ferry is between the 2 cruise ship ports.

My guess is it is at least 4 miles to Trunk Bay from Cruz Bay on a very hilly and windy road. I would not recommend walking it. The taxi is $6 pp each way.

THere is a ferry that leaves from Veteran's Drive (Waterfront) to St John, but not from Crown Bay. It does not run as frequently as the Red Hook ferry and costs more and takes longer. You could Goggle for Charlotte Amalie Ferry. Be warned that the times change rather frequently however.
