Cinco De Mayo

We will be cruising and be at Progreso on Cinco de Mayo. Does anyone know if there will be any celebrations going on there or on the carnival cruise?

I went on a cruise a couple years ago and we were in Cozumel over Cinco De Mayo--and I was super excited, but we were all kinda disappointed b/c no one was really celebrating it. It was like the cruise passengers and tourists were more into celebrating it than the locals were. I guess Americans have kinda taken over that holiday....

We'll be there on cinco de mayo too. Are you sailing on the Ecstasy? I think that's the only ship in port that day. Anyway, thanks for asking this. It completely slipped my mind that it was cinco de mayo. I hope you get some good info. Oh, if you are on the Ecstasy, we've got a roll call going if you want to join.

Maybe there is a misconception of the celebration on that day. Certainly is a non federal holiday, but it has a significative meaning for Mexico's history. Most of the cities in Mexico do not make special celebrations about the 5th of may, so do not expect to find FIESTA (party) around that day but you can make your own!
