P and O Ventura Caribbean Cruise

We are booked to go on a caribbean Cruise aboard P and o Ventura in November and I would like to find out if they have any Texas Holdem tournaments in the casino and if they do what format do they take. Also I would like to know if there are any pre pay options on soft drinks and coffee. I would be grateful for any information along these lines and any other tips as this will be our first cruising experience.

I do not know the answer to this question yet, but were off on Ventura to the Caribbean next week and both myself and my other half play poker so I can let you know.

On Carnival they had a tornament but we did not play because it was too smokey in the casino.

They have a Texas Holdum video table where a number of players can play against each other. However it was never used on our cruise.

The staff said that it had been popular on previous cruises.

i was on big V in november and they did a tournament one evening that i watched....(they could of done more, but it's a huge ship and i was never in the same place often!!)

as far as soft drinks pre-pay goes....they do a soda card that costs you £20 for 20 drinks... a large coke will cost you £1-35 (ish) so although it's a saving, it's not a huge one!! it can be used for ice creams too (iirc) so i would of thought that tea/coffee is the same....(don't hold me to that tho!!).. i used to take a hippy full of brandy around sometimes when i wasn't desperate for a drink...that way i could top up my cokes when i wanted without needing to order another drink!! (seems that's not the 'done' thing with P&O cruisers...even though my brandy was bought via the interactive screen in my cabin!!...but you only have to read posts on here to figure out the kind of people who interfere, when they should in fact be 'enjoying' their OWN holiday!!!!

from what i can gather, the soda card is a new thing, and they certainly didn't have it on the arcadia nov/dec 07, so as ventura seems, in my opinion to be used to 'trial' certain things then it may only be on that ship!!???....

enjoy your cruise...... it's a fantastic ship, great stops and brilliant crew!

Thanks eor your reply , I will make sure to keep my hip flask away from nosey parkers lol. How would children order any drinks , do they have their own charge card (frightening !) or do they have to find their parents every time they want a drink or an icecream ?

all passengers have a 'cruise card' ...but that is for security, ie getting on and off the ship etc, as well as for charging things to your account...

so what you do is buy little johnny a soda card on your cruise card and he's ok for 20 drinks / ice creams etc and won't keep bothering you every 5 mins...

the ship has a great burger&fries and pizza outlet too....that's free also so he won't bother you when he's hungry either!!

............ waits for the inevitable 'advice' that i shouldn't advise people to eat between meals like i got a couple of weeks ago after answering a similar question on here!!!!!

Let me say first that I love children. I had three.:p

Kids bothering their parents means they are less likely to bother me.

The thought of a kid drinking 20 cokes and eating a dozen burgers, as mine would have done if left unsupervised when they were young, doesn't bear witnessing.:D

Happy cruising.
