Monaco Tour Guide

Recommended Posts

In reality you do not need a tour guide per se for Monaco/Monte Carlo...you really can do it yourself by using the small ss train or the local bus from one side to the other, and a good brochure of what to see.It is walkable as well altho can be steep in some places:) Save money re guide for another port.

If you are just interested in Monte Carlo- you really don't need a guide. If you want to drive on some of the hairpin turns in the higher elevation on route to Monte Carlo then get a guide.

I am a cheapskate and just did the train from Villefranche to Monte Carlo and then walked up the hill to Monaco. It was easy and inexpensive. If you dock in Villefranche- that is a nice port that you can wander around also.

We had a lovely day touring with Michel of Revelation Tours. Ship docked in Villefranche, then we visited Eze, St. Paul deVence, Monaco, and stopped at a villa on our return to Villefranche. As the previous poster noted, you can tour Monaco on your own without paying a tour guide. Villefranche is also a lovely port that you can tour on your own. There are lots of little shops right near the port. After we finished our tour (9 hr.) we sat at a little outside cafe and had a glass of wine before we returned to the ship. The perfect ending to a fabulous day.

If you are looking for tour guides, I will be glad to give you some names. I just compiled a list for someone else.

Here is a nice website for Monaco with lots of info on tourism and transportation:

Hi Mary,

Glad to read that you had a great day with Michel. We have also booked him for August.

Are you able to pass on names of any other tour guides for the following ports?

Alicante, Malagna, Amalfi Coast, Corfu, Itea, Nafplion???

Thanks

for naples, i highly recommend marcello at seesorrento dot com

he and his guides are terrific. they take you to a little restuarant on a hill in Ravello where you feast on homemade food and homemade wine for 20 euro a person, which is a bargain in europe. he will also take you to pompeii or someplace else if you prefer. his price is the same this year as it was 2 yrs ago, which is terrific too

You will love your day with Michel. Have you planned your itinerary yet?

Unfortunately, I can't help you with those other ports, haven't been to any of them. I am sure you will get suggestions from others that have been there.

Naples is one port that we did visit. Our first trip to Naples we went to Pompeii and took the ferry to Capri. It was a very hectic day so I would suggest that you focus on one particular area you really want to see and save the other places for your next trip.

Our 2nd trip we did a tour of the Amalfi Coast that was very nice. Again, a lot of driving. We had lunch on a hillside restaurant with a great view.

I just organized a tour of Amalfi coast for some friends of mine that went on the Carnival Freedom in Sept. Ended up with 7 people going on the tour. I found a wonderful guide through a tour agency in Florence and everyone said their day with Giussepe was great. He lives in Sorrento but can take you anywhere you want to go. They visited Pompeii for 2 hrs. (Giussepe booked a private guide for them there), then toured the Amalfi Coast.

I just checked out Marcello's website - nice site. Get some prices from him.

Here's the driver I booked:

Email: info@sorrento-limousines.com

Tourism is down so you should be able to negotiate some nice prices.
