netsurfer Posted February 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2009 Have a bad allergy to smoke and want to avoid the smoking areas as much as possible on the Fantasy. Have cruised other ships before and have usually made out okay most of the time once I knew where to avoid it. Can anyone tell me where the smoking areas are located? Planning on staying on the Empress deck and especially wondered if any of the cabins and Grand Spectrum area permit smoking. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds. Smoking is allowed in all cabins. Atrium bar is nonsmoking, along with dining rooms & show lounges.

There's no such thing as a smoke allergy. Smoke is not an allergen; it is an irritant...... Smoking areas onboard are clearly marked....as are the nonsmoking areas..... Stick to the nonsmoking venues...that's how you avoid it.

LHP Posted February 21, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 21, 2009 If you have not already booked the Fantasy and you are extremely sensitive to smoke, I would book with another class of ship. Unfortunately, the Promenade may also be a problem for you since they allow smoking at the Century 21 bar which is in the middle of the ship and on the Promenade. The Casino is also very open (a couple of tables right on the Promenade where you have to walk by) and smoke from there comes into the Promenade. Also Cigar smoke from the Majestic Lounge can travel as far as half way up the Promenade. The degree to the amount of smoke clearly depends on the number of passengers. But the Port of New Orleans does seem to draw (no pun intended) more of a smoking crowd. So you need to be aware.....
netsurfer Posted February 21, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted February 21, 2009 There's no such thing as a smoke allergy. Smoke is not an allergen; it is an irritant...... LOL...technically, that is true. Guess I should have phrased what I was attempting to convey differently. The truth of the matter is, I have asthma and my husband has mild emphysema, but summing it up as an allergy seemed easier.

Most folks understand the word "allergic" is sometimes used as a genetic description for "I have a bad reaction around it that effects my health". So I understood what you meant. As for me, the last time of concentrated exposure (before designated smoking areas) on the Holiday in 2003....meant 2 months of throat and bron. ulcers (like those little ones you get in your mouth). Just imagine your throat and into the lung lining covered in those. I don't care what "term" anyone wants to use .... the painful result was the same. So yes, I understand! Surfgirl Posted February 27, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 27, 2009 Your terse and surly reply could be construed as an irritant as well. Oh, she's doing the same thing on the NCL board as well! (waving at G'ma). MedTV seems to think there can be an allergy: Cigarette smoke allergy is caused by the numerous toxic chemicals and irritants found in cigarette smoke. Not only are people with a cigarette smoke allergy extra sensitive to cigarette smoke than others, but recent studies also show that smoking may actually aggravate allergies. Common cigarette smoke allergy symptoms may include: burning or watery eyes, nasal congestion, or coughing. http://allergies.emedtv.com/cigarette-smoke-allergy/cigarette-smoke-allergy.html

ktpc2005 Posted February 27, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 27, 2009 I just got off the Fantasy and it felt like everywhere I went I ran into a cloud of smoke. The places that do not allow smoking are Universe Lounge, main dining rooms, windows of the seas.
