meredith Posted April 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Okay, now I am officially panicking... I cannot find our birth certificates anywhere. I put them somewhere "special" after the last cruise, so I wouldn't lose them (instead of putting them in our safe). Does anyone ever do that? Can anyone give me suggestions that might jog my memory. Our cruise is less than 3 weeks away! Thanx! PhoenixCruiser Posted April 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2004 I have found ours in the same place I swore I looked for them earlier Just had to be patient and go thru every single paper. In your luggage? With your receipts/pictures from the last time you used them? justcruzin85374 Posted April 27, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Once I left mine in the travel documents from the last cruise. Since then we got out passports and have them locked away, with our birth certificates. Good luck, hope you find them. Soveriegn 92 E. Caribbean Majesty 95 W. Caribbean Granduer 97 E. iluvcruzin Posted April 27, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Hope you find them.. but in the meantime, you still have time to order new ones. It doesn't hurt to have 2 copies. If you are no longer in the same county/state as your birth you can order them online and have them in less than 2 weeks. Otherwise, go to your local Health department and pick more up. DFritz Posted April 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Purses? Puches? Document Holders? Unpacked luggage? Carryon bags? You had to have stuck them someplace important. Do you have a vacation or cruise folder? Can you get replacements? Do you live within a days drive of where you were born? It might be worth ordering new ones as you can have them fed exed overnight. The best advice that I can give is to calm down and start doing the spring cleaning and you may stumble across them. Family of 14 Posted April 27, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Your large 2 gallon bag of cruise supplies? In with all your Cruise Critic research papers for this cruise? I have been keeping ours in my closet since our cruise over a year ago instead of putting them back in the safety deposit box. My DH and I took one cruise together since then. I know I should put them back in the safety deposit box though. Good Luck! 1cruise2U Posted April 27, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Go to vitalchek.com We have used this site several times, also go to the health department of the city you live in or check online to see where you need to send in the state you were born in to get copies, it usually only takes 3 to 4 days, most places you can fax or order online

Sonny Goodman Posted April 27, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I know in Pennsylvania you can contact your elected state representative and he/she can get you a certified copy within days. Cost is less than $5.00 Might want to try it in your state.
Rachelleh Posted April 27, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 27, 2004 We travel frequently with our three children that is 5 birth certificates to keep track of (I recently switched to passports, had to for Barbados + eaiser not to lose - I think). Once when I could not find one and panicked, I did what was suggested earlier(my husbands from 1958 in Philly)online google = birth certificates + your state of birth. They will give you a link, we called gave them our cc information and paid an extra (I think $10.00) to fed ex them to Missouri and had them within 48 hours. Other places I have found them after putting them in a special "safe" place. Envelopes for airline tickets from last trip, travel purse "safe" pocket, outside zipper compartment on carry on, laptop case, in papers from embarkation of ship. As you see I've had to much exp. with these. Watch for my post around Nov. looking for help to figure out where the "safe" place I put our passports so we can take NOS. Good luck, hope this helps. cruisinisforme Posted April 27, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I am sure people will have plenty to say about this, but you dont need your birth certificate if you cant find it. I just got off the Mariner, the night before the cruise one of the people with us also could not, and never did find his, we called RCCL and they told us to bring a number of things including a marriage certificate, he also brought his baptism certificate and that is what they accepted. Our cruise went to St. Thomas where we had to go through customs again, and again, they accepted it there too, so even if you dont get it dont worry, everything will work out. RCLforever Posted April 27, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I keep ours in my dining room hutch drawer. Why?/ who knows... Once, I took all my credit cards, you know, like Sears, Macy's JC Penney's etc. all except my VISA.. and "hid" them in a safe place... Well, guess what? Came back from vacation and for the life of me could not remember where I stashed them!Looked for weeks....my husband was glad ( I couldnt spend anything..) It was funnya at first, then I really got upset!! I even knocked over an oil lamp onto my wedding proof book--what a mess that was.... ended up laying out all the photos, covering them with baking soda to absorb the oil.... anyway..focus..Kathy, focus... I did eventually find them near my dryer in the basement... I swear from now on, if I am going to "hide" or "store" something safely or important, I am sure to tell my mother. At 77 she remembers EVERYTHING...
fahywray Posted April 27, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Boy do I know how you feel. Lost ours 2 days before our last cruise (and it was a Friday). I didn't sleep all night. I finally found them stuck BEHIND the drawer I knew I had put them in the last time we used them. Family of 14 Posted April 28, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 28, 2004 That's a great idea, fahywray. Look behind drawers. Papers often get pushed to the back and fall behind. michiganders Posted April 28, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 28, 2004 I got so tired of searching for our Birth Certificates, etc.! So, I created a file in our file cabinet called "Passports & Birth Certificates". Nothing goes in this file except our passports, Birth Certs and our original Social Security cards. When we return from vacation, I refile the documents immediately. I also create a temporary file for all of those things that I usually carry in my purse, but clean out before vacation (store credit cards, etc.). It is a locked file cabinet. I suppose someone could break in and find this stuff, but hey, if they break in, they're going to search through the house anyway. Have a great vacation!
