Staying onboard at nassau?

Good Afternoon,

I am going to be taking my 15th cruise in april on the Disney wonder (2nd time on disney). However this will be the first time taking a child. My little girl is going to be 14 months. We have been trying to figure out what to do in nassau. I really don't want to spend the money to go to paradise island since I didn't 100% like it the first time. I have never stayed on the ship in port before. Is it very crowded on the ship? I was thinking it may be nice to have the little one on the deck and pool since it might now be too busy... Also, anyone have any alternate ideas? Thanks so much! Kimberley

My family and I just decided to go to the Wyndham Hotel. Day passes to use their beach and facilities are either $15 or $40 (includes lunch) - there is some debate about this. :) I am traveling with my husband (32), me (26), my daughter (11 1/2 mos), my mom and stepdad (both 56), and my little brother (16). I wanted to stay close to port so I didn't have to lug the carseat, but I was out numbered. Yesterday, they decided they wanted to go to the Wyndam because there is so much more there for everyone to do- including a Casino close by (for my mom).

My husband and I got off the ship when we went in 2005, but stayed on when we went back in 2008. When we got off the ship, we went to Atlantis and purchased bracelets for the walking tour. At that time they were $10 per person. We walked to the hotel and then toured around the open aquarium. It was a lovely day and very enjoyable. When we stayed on the ship, the activites were understanably sparce, but the ship was not crowded at all. I would suggest maybe walking around Atlantis for a couple of hours, then come back to eat lunch on the ship and let your daughter play more freely on a less crowded ship. Whatever you do, I am sure it will be great. I hope you enjoy your cruise!

I am one of the few that disagree about going to Atlantis. I stayed there in 2005 and wasn't that impressed. Sure, it is nice, but they overcharge for everything! If you do go, def. do not eat lunch there. It was about $11 for a hamburger - no fries, no drink!

What is there to do in Nassau if you don't buy day passes to Atlantis or another hotel? We really don't want to spend a ton of money either. We were thinking about walking around the city for a few hours, will we be able to get back on the ship at like 1 pm or so?

It's been awhile since I did this, but on our 1st cruise I believe we walked around near the port area. They have shopping at the straw market (open air market that sells crafts, jewelry, etc.) I think the only beach within walking distance is the British Colonial Hilton, but you have to purchase a day pass - I think it is $20.

You can get on and off the ship as you please.

I leave tomorrow and I am so excited!
