To Stephen Card re Safety in Antarctic Waters

With respect to your days as a Master upon the seven seas, I would like to draw upon your expertise.

During almost every Antarctic summer season these past years, with boats and ships plying the waters around the Peninsula, there is an annual incident of a ship grounding, bashing into something, or sinking.

I have sailed extensively on Saga Rose and Saga Ruby in the areas of the North Pole icepack, Jacobshavn Glacier, Disko Bay, Longyearbyen, Magdalenafjord and Bay, Ny Alesund. No worries of danger, no negative statistics.

Why is Antarctica such a challenge to the Bridge staff and Masters?
