davela2 Posted March 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2009 We are renting a car next week in Curacao. Does anyone know a good source for a driving tour of the island. I found websites that list a few "attractions", but I'm looking for more of a "must see" list from people that have driven the island. Also, are there beaches where you can rent snorkeling equipment right there and wade or swim out to go snorkeling? Thanks in advance! Dave
cruiseapril Posted March 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Hi- Much depends on how much time you have for your drive. We lived in Curacao, so have driven everywhere! It is fairly small- only 37 miles long by 7 miles wide. A good trip is to the West of Willemstad- Blue Bay Resort rents snorkeling equipment and has lots of other amenities. You can google Blue Bay Curacao for their website. Blue Bay is a good swimming and snorkeling site. Another good beach is Playa Porto Mari, further West. If you have plenty of time, you can go to the Christoffel National Park. On the other hand, we usually spend the whole morning at a beach and then spend the afternoon in Willemstad as there is so much to see and do there. Glad to answer any questions.:)
davela2 Posted March 5, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted March 5, 2009 Thanks April We have about 4.5 hours to explore by car. We've been to Curacao on our lasr cruise, so we saw most of Willemstad by foot. Our ship doesn't depart until 11PM, so after we turn the car in, we'll be able to enjoy the night in town As far as beaches, we would probably like to just go to a beach to snorkel for a bit. Other than that, we are looking for great scenery, interesting architecture, and just a nice driving tour
cruiseapril Posted March 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Hi again- if you like the resort atmosphere, you would like Blue Bay Beach- or if you like a less developed beach- Playa Porto Mari is good- but don't know if you can rent snorkel equipment there -as you can at Blue Bay. There are flamingo flats on the way to Blue Bay. We used to enjoy driving to the different landhouses in Curacao. If you google Curacao landhouses, you'll find lots of info. As you know, the scenery is like Arizona with lots of cacti- the National Park area is interesting. Have a wonderful time in Curacao and let us know about your activities there.
