Tours to the Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale??

We are sailing on the Eurodam on March 14-21, and wondering if anyone has been on the shore excursions to the Everglades in Florida? You know, with the airboats through the swamp, alligators.... I see that HAL offers a tour which includes airport transfer...is this a worthwhile tour? It sounds really interesting, and not much else planned that day. Any help would be appreciated!!:)

We were there a couple of years ago and added days to our vacation and rented a car and went down the Florida Keys and then went back up to Ft. Lauderdale and went on a tour we found and had a great time. So if you are staying a couple of days extra try it. My husband thought it would be a waste of time and he actually said he was WRONG about it:eek:

Have fun no matter what you do.

We did the Everglades tour four years ago and had a great time. We booked it from a brochure we found on a rack in the hotel we stayed at prior to the cruise.

Make sure you take the camera....we got some great pictures.

We did the tour the day we got off the ship. We had a mid afternoon flight so had lots of time. We took the ships excursion because they provided a transfer to the airport after the tour. (or to a hotel if you were staying on in Ft. Lauderdale) We enjoyed the tour and it beat sitting in the airport for the better part of the day!!

From the shore Excursion sheet in our cabin:

Everglades Airboat Ride & Airport Transfer - 4 hours (adult - $62; child - $52)

Enjoy en incredible 30 minute airboat ride into this vast wilderness and visit the parks reptile and tropical bird exhibits. Refreshments available for purchase.

*Airport dropoff approximate 12:30 PM/ 1 PM

*Flights from FLL must be 2:30 PM or later

*Flights from miami must be 3 PM or later

Now -- JMO -- when we did this tour a number of years ago -- we spent over an hour in the Everglades.

Thanks so much for you info and for the welcome! It is our first HAL cruise, we have been on 2 others, Star Princess and Norwegian Sun...loved the Princess!! Hope it will be fun, we are counting the chilly Canadian days away....

We are traveling with our three kids, so the HAL excursion proved pretty expensive, even with a transfer to MIA, versus the rental car and doing the excursion on our own. That said, we'll lug our bags to our rental car and are planning a tour on our own...we just did an internet search. If you're interested, email me @aol.com and I can send you the details.
