Where to Stay in Anchorage without a car

Hi, we are planning on spending 2 nights in Anchorage prior to hiring a car and travelling to Denali. Our preference would be to stay at a B&B but are any of the B&Bs in Anchorage close to the shops and restaurants? If not, which hotels are best situated for shops and restaurants?

I've never been inside, but the Copper Whale is about as centrally located as you can get in an Anchorage B&B. Here's a link to their website:

As for hotels, the Hilton, Marriott, Captain Cook, Howard Johnson, Hawthorn Inn, Clarion Inn, Comfort Inn and to a lesser degree the Sheraton are all within walking distance of the sites downtown. It just depends on how much you are willing to pay and how far you want to walk.
