A vs B vs C vs etc

It designates location on the ship. Within a numbered category, A cabins are viewed by the cruiseline to be the most desirable, i.e. higher deck and midship. B cabins may be on that same deck and either foreward or aft of the A cabins, or they could be midship on a lower deck.

Actually, it's the other way around, the 8A's would be on the lowest balcony deck, and for example, the 8H's, 8I's, etc, would be on the highest decks or the popular aft cabins that are presumably the best locations.

Yes, you are correct of course.

Sorry, OP. As if you weren't confused enough already.

OK. We got a 6D ocean view cabin, it's up on the Empress deck but pretty far aft. We're about 10 cabins from the back of the ship.

We are sailing in May on the Valor and have a 6D. The only thing I was able to ascertain about this particular type of cabin is the location (being in the back of the ship, being able to look out over the ship's wake). I know that is a good location as well if you have a balcony. :D

That should be a good one. I like aft cabins. There is a lot less foot traffic and it sounds like you will be close to the aft elevator for those late night trips to the pizza station. It is a longer walk to get to some of the main lounges & bars, but that's a good thing. It'll help work off some of those extra calories we all take in on a cruise!:)

My only concern about aft cabins is vibration. We ate in the aft dining room on our last cruise and you could feel the floor shaking ever so slightly. It didn't really bother me at dinner, but I don't think I could sleep during it. Is this typical for the back of the ship or do you think there was a problem on that ship such as broken stabilizers or something?
