Oh dear Humpy, seems the administrator has taken a dislike to you already ;)

£2,400 for a balcony on Ventura's sister ship seems a bit steep to me. Is that before discounts?

Cheers

Gerry

Maybe there's some 'maiden voyage' premium in that. Maybe it's for more more than 14 nights (I gather that Azura will be doing a lot of 16-night E Med cruises). Maybe (as you asked, gerry) that's before discount.

But - yes, it does seem steep. Especially when compared to Eclipse pricing.

I expect Azura prices to be competitive and not disimilar to Ventura, so yes I think those are list prices without any discount. P/O usually give up to 45% discount for early bookings, by the way Humpy where did you get the prices from. I have looked through the web and can't find any info at all. If those prices are with discount then you could be adding another 45% to the total cost.

Azura is expensive. I have been quoted £2230pp for a 16n Venice cruise in early September 2010 in a decent balcony ... thats after a good discount from a TA i have found to be the cheapest around... I paid £1878pp last year for same cruise on Arcadia!

Very disappointed to see these prices. Is P&O usually a lot more expensive than Celebrity? We have only sailed with Celebrity & Royal Caribbean previously, but were very interested in the Azura. However, at these prices it looks as if we won't be able to try something new after all.:(

Celebrity v P&O

Yes believe it or not p&o are much dearer, although they say Celebrity is 1* MORE!

I have a quote for a 14n Med cruise on Eclipse from Southampton next year at same time as the Azura one - good 2b balcony cabin £1335pp for 14n Med cruise!

Wow that's nearly a £1000 cheaper I would snap their arms for that, not unless you leave till late and hope Azura gets discounted. Even if you can afford the Azura price will it be £1000 better than Celebrity

...and thats per person! so £2000 for a couple...(but is only 14n Azura 16n and sailing further into Med with a Venice port which must be expensive)

I'm very undecided at the moment. I've been waiting for the Azura itineraries for a long while, and I'm quite disappointed in them, let alone the prices: I just can't do anything longer than 14 nights. So do I wait until the rest of the P&O itineraries/prices are released, or do I book with Celebrity Eclipse? No-one knows how long Celebrity will be holding their launch offer open - it's £200 per person (for a 14-night cruise) reduction. So the prices that Sue & I and others have been quoting would be £200 more, if the offer is closed down. And the main P&O itineraries won't be made available until some time in April.

Having said a lot about how cheap the Eclipse cruises are at the moment, it's worth remembering that there are some issues about Celebrity cruises: a) on-board prices are in US$, we don't know what the exchange rate will be like in September 2010, so we could be spending a lot of money; b) drinks prices are very high - there aren't that many glasses of wine at much less than $8, for example, and lots at well over that price; c) and of course all drinks prices on Celebrity have 15% added on to them; d) no free shuttles. I was reading earlier today that they were changing $20 return for the Livorno shuttle service - from the ship into Livorno town centre.

So the on-board prices on Eclipse or any Celebrity ship will be higher than on P&O. Then there's the fact that the Solstice class don't have promenade decks, so it's an altogether different cruise experience.

I'm going on Solstice this autumn, and after that I'll know what I think about that class of ship. One view I'm beginning to come to is to wait until 2010 to book and see what prices are like then.

I can live without 2 extra days for £1000 or £2000, why so many Cruises to Croatia with 16 nights. They must hope to justify the over the top prices with the extra 2 nights.

I think it is too rushed to try and do the Croatia / Venice region in 14 days.

We have been on Oceana to that region and 16 days was very relaxing.

Depends if you want to see Venice and Dubrovnik I suppose, if you do, its 16nights.

25th October 2010 – Mediterranean Premier, 14 nights including Monte Carlo, Naples and Cartagena – From £1209pp

08th November 2010 – Aegean Introduction, 18 nights including Venice, Dubrovnik and Kasadasi – From £1489pp

Its not Croatia thats the appeal its Venice..... Venice is the main attraction on this cruise, along with Dubrovnik.

We usually book 2 balcony cabins and I have calculated that will cost us an extra £2000 on Azura rather than Eclipse for a 2 week (or 16 night) holiday during the school summer holidays. That's a lot of drinks and shuttle buses!

I agree - 14 nights is enough for us so the extra two nights don't justify the cost.

That being said we don't like the Eclipse itinerary so are feeling very stuck. Perhaps we will have to look somewhere else?
