iflyrc5 Posted March 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2009 My Underwate capable Olympus sprung a leak on our recent snorkeling trip and is toast - so - looking for a new camera. We only do snorkeling - looking for anyone with experience with the SeaLife model DC800. This has some good reviews on scuba sites.
cruzegirl Posted March 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2009 My Underwate capable Olympus sprung a leak on our recent snorkeling trip and is toast - so - looking for a new camera. We only do snorkeling - looking for anyone with experience with the SeaLife model DC800. This has some good reviews on scuba sites. I would not recommend any Sea Life Camera!!! I had a Sea Life DC 300 a few years ago. It flooded numerous times. I was on speed dial for Sea Life customer service. Which is excellent. But that camera was replaced several times including the strobe. A friend got the DC 800 this past year after I tried to discourage him. He had nothing but problems on the trip to Tahiti and was sorry he didn't listen to me. So I would purchase something else. I got an Olympus Stylus 600 which requires a housing and was a great camera. And then I upgraded to a Olympus SP 550 UZ. It's a great multi purpose camera. I hope this info. helps

Tn Travelers Posted March 18, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 18, 2009 I have a DC-800 and it has performed flawlessly on 4 trips (50+ dives) to date. From the ScubaBoard discussions, there have been a few lemons - but SeaLife seems determined to "make it right" if there is a problem. Prior to the DC-800 my wife and I had 2 DC-500's - she is still using hers, with more than 125 dives on it - I sold mine to a friend when I got the DC-800. Between the 2 of us, it has about 250 dives on it. I have a DC-961 stope - it gave me a problem at first, but SeaLife fixed it with no hesitation. Just my experience with SeaLife camers - "your mileage may vary".

Diver Bob Posted March 28, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2009 I have a DC-500 with a Sealife external strobe with +50 dives on it. It has been a very reliable camera and takes pretty good photos for the price. I did change out the strobe arm for one with more distance between the camera and flash... This improved backscatter significantly. My next camera will be a DC-800 (or a 10mp by that time :))
