TeeTee2 Posted March 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2009 Has anyone stayed at the Marriott Hotel at the airport in Venice? Tips as to conenience, ease of getting into the city (we will be staying one night prior to boarding our ship on 7/3/09). We have some Marriott points we'd like to use. Might try going to the Europe Port threads and post this question. Venice is a wondeful City to explore.(water taxi is the most expensive) Water Bus from the Airport quite reasonable,, or regular bus to the land side of Venice , then hop on a vaparetto down the grand canal to Piazza San Marco. Are you returning to Venice post cruise overnight; if so I'd recommend staying at the Marriott? We did the night before our flight home as it left at 6:00a.m. and the you just walk from the hotel to your departure gate otherwise it's a long way from downtown Venice. If not it really is far, I'd stay downtown Venice in a B&B, it's cheaper and closer to the ship. You can then take a water taxi (we paid 12Euros pp) or take the water bus (get a 24hr. pass to hop on and off and tour Venice) you'd have lots of time to make the ship and you could use your pass. The bus into Venice stops across the street at the hotel entrance, and from Venice a block or two before the hotel. Cost was about 1 Euro, and it was about a 15-20 min ride into the transportation plaza in Venice. Very convenient. Its a modern hotel, excellent condition and a good buffet breakfast. We thought it was a good value vs. paying big bucks for something on the Grand Canal. The taxi from the hotel (we were there pre-cruise) to the ship was about $40. Travel to Ports Posted March 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 18, 2009 What time to you arrive at Marco Polo? Beyond this one night, do you then spend the next night on the ship and have the next morning in Venice as well? Staying at a hotel near the cruise port near P. Roma would give you some evening/morning experience in Venice. We are doing Barcelona to Venice 28 May and getting a taste of both cities by first spending several nights in a Barcelona apartment and then have selected an easy-to-reach hotel for 3 nights near P. Roma to allow easy transport via bus or taxi to the airport (look at their web site: Google Hotel Gardena Venice Italy). Best of luck in your planning, David

chrtran Posted March 18, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 18, 2009 Venice is a beautiful city to just wonder around, even at night. The lights reflected on the water. The people walking around. If you have more time, I'd would stay inside the city. Take time to visit the islands too ... I've stayed in Venice 3 times: once at San Marco area, once near the train station, and once right at the Rialto Bridge. San Marco area is the best in terms of atmosphere and convenience. TeeTee2 Posted March 18, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted March 18, 2009 Thanks everyone. Just to clarify, we arrive in Venice in the morning on July 2. We'll have all that day to explore Venice, staying overnight at a hotel. On the 3rd, we'll be able to board the ship (in the a.m. I presume) and spend that day also exploring Venice (we'll overnight on the ship). The ships sails at 8 a.m. on the 4th.
