Need Opinions - Mardi Gras week 2010 - N.O. or FLL?

I need opinions from all of you experienced Carnival cruisers. We are planning a cruise with 2 other 50-something couples for Presidents Week 2010, which coincidentally is also Mardi Gras week. We are looking at the 7 day Western Carib cruise out of New Orleans or the 8 day Wester Carib out of Fort Lauderdale. We're coming from NY where the schools are on vacation that week. Which cruise would likely have more kids onboard? How crazy will it be to try to get to New Orleans the Saturday before Mardi Gras? Any suggestions or opinions are welcome. Thanks fellow CC'ers!

School weeks kids are on all ships really. The airfare might be more to NO and harder to get then the FL ones but if you plan on staying a night or two you can' go wrong with NO ANYTIME!
