Alaska Land Portion Costs

Recommended Posts

We are looking into an Alaska cruisetour next year. Anyone have an "average" of food costs for the lodges per day. I believe once your off the ship the land portion is out of pocket for food?

Thanks!!

Hi Chesie,

Yes, you are correct once off the ship dining charges are out of pocket - unless you're on the escorted tour.

I'm not sure which land tour you're taking but the restaurants at the lodges are great and the food is excellent. At Denali you'll have choices of "off-site" dining but at McKinley you at the mercy of the lodge - but they have 2 or 3 dining venues to choose from.

But to answer your question - plan on spending about 25-35% more than you would pay at home.

we were there last june but we dont keep track of that kind of stuff. all i remember is it was more than i would pay at home. but the meals were good.

you will be in the wilderness and most foodstuffs have to be brought there hence the extra cost

This question is on the Alaska forum in the Ports of Call area. You might check over there for that and lots more great Alaska info.

Thanks Jim. I was over there but was trying to get a feel for Princess cruisetours. So much great info on that thread!

If you are trying to save $ make sure if you go to the Denali Wilderness Lodge to go to the Subway restaurant across the road. Many bought subs there before they boarded the train to go to Talkeetna (MT McKinley)
