Explain Credit Card Charge

Did I read on other posts something about our credit card being charged a certain amount once we board? Unless I dreamed this, can someone please explain. What is this charge for?

Without knowing exactly what you read it is hard to answer this but, maybe what you are referring to is that Princess (and lots of companies do this ..hotels, car rentals) they do a 'test" charge that is not completed that will see if you have enough of a credit limit to handle any on board charges, your credit card company will see this as a potential charge and will "hold" that amount, if no completed charge appears the credit hold is removed (usually within 48 hours).

I hope this helps.:)

I do not know about what posts you read but on our cruise next month our port fees have gone up on certain stops so it will be added to our shipboard acct. as it is after final payment.

As has been said, cruiselines put a "hold" for a certain amount on your onboard account. It's not an actual charge but rather a test to see if you have the funds available for onboard charges. This is not at all unusual. HAL puts a hold at the beginning of your cruise in an amount the equivalent to $60/day/pp; Princess doesn't put a hold that high but it is enough to cover the auto-tip and a reasonable daily expenditure.
