Zeno Posted December 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2004 Since "best" is a matter of personal taste - it is hard to answer your questions. Bikini Beach is a pretty good spot to be dropped off at because it is fairly centrally located. Personally I would just wander the beach until you spot a place you like the look of. kal Posted December 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 4, 2004 what are the best buys and what buys are "specific" to St. Maarten/St. Martin? what is the best bar at Orient Beach? what is the best place to ask to be dropped off at Orient Beach? what is best shopping at Orient? Best Buys: Jewelry, liquor, French goods Best Orient Bar: Any with live music and cheap drinks. Best Drop-off: Pedros is most common and easiest for taxis; however I would say Kon-Tiki or Kakao as those are more centrally located. Best Shopping: Sexy Fruits and Adam & Eve (side-by-side shops) near Kon Tiki.
L_T Posted December 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 6, 2004 Best Buys - check out the French wine, of course on the French side. Best Orient Bar - well, if you really want to be daring....and meet some wonderful people, the Club Orient beach bar "Perch" has a two for one happy hour beginning at 12:30 - very clothing optional and if you are wearing much, you will stand out! Other bars will have specials posted out front. Best Drop-off - Bikini Beach Bar is sort of mid-beach; Pedro's is close to the clothing optional resort. Suggest walking the beach from either point and take a look at all the options and offers (and wonderful scenery). Best Shopping - for a unique custom bathing suit and hand painted wraps, see Luiz (behind Pedro's, ask locals where he is located), he is an artist with a sewing machine, and will ensure a great fit. No changing rooms (like he says "it's a nude beach!"), but he will discretely turn away.
