Beaches on Corfu

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done the beaches on Corfu on your own? We have decided to take some time at the beach there, and would like to know if there are beaches open to the public, or are they all associated with hotels or resorts? If they are associated with resorts buy open for day use for a fee that would be fine too, but we would like to know what the fee is.

Also does anyone have a recommendation re transportation across the island to the beach area, how to make sure we can be back at the ship on time?

Thanks for your info.

When we were in Corfu in 2004 we went to Glyfada Beach. We got a taxi at the port, negotiated a fee and he dropped us off and picked us up at the assigned spot at the time that we agreed to. We did not pay until we got back to the port.

It was a very nice beach. Beds and umbrellas are avaiable for rent and there are a few tavernas available for lunch.

Just a word of caution!

I am from sunny Southern California, and we have some lovely SANDY beaches. I was very disappointed in most of the beaches in the Med.

Italy, Greece, Turkey (what they call beaches) isn't what we are used to.

We did see a black sand beach on Santorini, but most places the "beach" is actually more of just a shoreline. The ground is covered with pebbles, stones, lava rock, not the beautiful sandy beaches that we have in the US, or even the Caribbean. Thus the beds or cabanas for rent.

Glyfada was a nice sandy beach.

Paleokastritsa is a beautiful beach (you go for the beautiful clear calm water, not for the beach itself) and an easy drive with a rental car (we used Corfu Sunrise) from Corfu Town. Plenty of cheap parking is nearby, as are sit-down and take out restaurant and souvenir/gift shops. The fee for using the beach was very cheap.
