lovebug33 Posted March 31, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2009 Okay, so we are spending 6 am - 9 pm in Haines. Our tour is over at 12:30. Can we get from Haines to Skagway easily or should we just hang out in Haines? We probably will want to be back on the boat around 5 or 6 for dinner. Ist here anything to do in Haines? TIA! roddee Posted March 31, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2009 When we visited Haines, we were only there in the late afternoon/evening. It is a beautiful place. Great stop to check out the wildlife and Inuit people. We just grabbed a tour at the pier, the guide happened to be a tribal member and took us to his village and showed us around, even showed us how they smoke a preserve food and gave out samples. We wish we had been able to spend more time there. Good luck with your decisions. Dee

Haines is a great port. We've only been there once, but are visiting again this year. There are NO international jewelry stores which I consider a big plus! We did the self-guided walking tour of Fort Seward which was quite interesting. We also went to the Sheldon Museum which was interesting and to a natural history museum which more interesting. While there one of the locals told us where an active Eagles' nest was in town and we were able to locate and got some great pictures. We will be in Haines twice (a week apart) this year. We plan to rent a car this time and drive up the Haines Highway where I've read the sights are amazing. We are also considering the Kroschel wildlife center and the Klukwan tribal tour. Yukon Posted March 31, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2009 Great stop to check out the wildlife and Inuit people. There are no Inuit within 1,000 miles or so, but I'm glad that you enjoyed your time with the Chilkat Indian guy :)
