cpdad Posted April 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2009 We just booked a great deal with Online Vacation Center. Any one else on this cruise? Hi. We have not booked this cruise yet, but we are planning to do so very soon. We have booked our airline tickets to London. We should book our cabin soon so we can start looking at some private excursions, especially in St. Petersburg. Have you made any plans yet? This will be our fourth NCL cruise in the last 18 months, and our second time sailing out of Dover. We usually attend some of the FOD gatherings, and have met some very nice pople that way. Cheers, Tom & Al (San Francisco)
bobnjeff Posted April 9, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted April 9, 2009 We will look forward to meeting you both, Bob lived in SF for 10 years from 1970. We too go to FOD. We were on the Jewel back in Sept. for the transatlantic from Dover. There were 35-40 guys some nights for FOD. We had a great time. We are staying in London for two nights before the cruise in Hyde Park. Our first visit to London. We are also going to see Priscilla at the Palace on Sat. night. We booked a tour with Den-Rus tours for St. Petersburg. We are going on their value complete tour plus going to see the Ballet. We looked at Alla tours and SPB but thought the tours with Den-Rus were the best. They are a Florida company so you can pay online in US dollars. We haven't planned anything else yet but are looking into HOHO sort of tours for most of the other ports. We decided not to deal with the 3 hour each way bus ride to Berlin. Tried that once to London, ran into delays on the road and only had 2 hours in the city. We will be in Cabin #9668. Look us up when you get on board or we will see you at FOD. cpdad Posted April 16, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Robert and Gary from Northern Jersey. Looking forward to meeting you all. We arrive in Heathrow Saturday morning and headed to Dover. Will stay at Ramada unless someone has a better suggestion. Any suggestion for Heathrow to Dover. I was going to take the Heathrow Express to Victoria Station then the train to Dover???? Welcome. I just saw (and replied to) your post on the roll call board. We liked the Premier Inn in Dover in October 2007. Seems to be the highest-rated hotel in Dover on Trip Advisor. It is similar to a good quality U.S. motel. There are no luxury hotels in Dover. If you stay there, ask for a sea-view room, otherwise you face the highway. There is not much going on in Dover as far as sight-seeing. There is the castle/fort which we never got around to seeing due to arriving in Dover on a Sunday afternoon, and the castle closing around 5pm. Dover seemed like a sleepy, coastal town (at least on a Sunday). An OK place to recover from jet lag. This time we will stop in Canterbury for a change of scenery - the coach stops there on its way to Dover. We took the National Express coach last time. I'm not familair with the train, other than knowing is costs around 25 pounds vs. 1 pound for the coach. The coach ride was fine. Traveling on a Sunday last time, we practically had the bus all to ourselves. The ride takes 20-30 minutes longer than the train. I believe the Ramada is fairly close to the Dover Priory train station (?). We got off the bus at the Dover Ferry port and walked to the Premier Inn in about 5 minutes or so. Looking forward to seeing everyone at M & G or at FOD. Cheers, Tom

bobnjeff Posted April 26, 2009 Author #11 Share Posted April 26, 2009 We are staying at the Corus Hyde Park. We have not been to London before too. The hotel came as part of a package from the cruise line. We arrive early Friday. We just got London Passes with travel so we can explore the city. Too much to see in a couple of days but.... We also decided to book a show for Saturday night. We are going to see Priscilla at the Palace. Seen the movie and loved it so. Maybe we can meet up in the city otherwise we'll see you on the Jewel. We are taking the Nation Express Coach from Victoria Coach Station to get to Dover they had some very cheap Fun Fares as low as 1 pound. We are on the 9:30am. If you are on this motor coach on Sunday, then we will also be on board, but we will be boarding in Canterbury for the last 40 minutes of the journey. There will be two women with us (partner's co-workers who invited themselves to join us after they saw what a good deal we got on the cruise) We arrive in Dover at noon. It's interesting that the taxi fare from Dover coach terminal to the port will cost significantly more than the long distance coach ride. Those National Express fares have been unbelievably low, but they have been inching upwards over the last few weeks. Bon Voyage.
